Celebrating Garry Sobers - The Fielder

With inspiration from Sanz. We know Sobers was one of the ATG purely as a fielder. Want to know, especially from people who saw him play during his career, and even live. What were his most common fielding positions? What were his best attributes as a fielder? Any weaknesses? Where would you...

Greater impact Test cricketer: Sachin Tendulkar vs James Anderson

Not who is better or more skilled, but which of the two do you think had a greater impact on results for their Test side? I have my own ideas, but want to see your reasoning and arguments for your choices. Both specialists in their respective disciplines, and both professionals in tertiary...

Cloned team vs All other ATG XI

Who wins? One one side you have: 7 Soberses's 2 McGraths 1 Murali 1 Gilchrist Other side is the best possible non cloned XI, not including any of the above, or Bradman.

    Fast bowling workload

I'm very interested in this topic, and how this was perceived and considered, historically. Fast bowlers are the most likely to be injured and break down components of a cricket team, and a part of that is simply overwork over even a long period of time. This stuff is monitored pretty closely...

Best peak: Mike Tyson vs Waqar Younis vs Ronaldo Nazario

All 3 were the definition of unstoppable forces at their peaks, but their dominant periods didn't last. Which of the 3 was the greatest phenomenon for their respective sport? This is NOT the current Cristiano Ronaldo, but rather the Il Fenomeno of Brazil (or crudely referred by English media...

Better Test player when they overlapped - Barnes vs Hobbs

A continuation of this thread: http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/threads/jack-hobbs-vs-sydney-barnes.94665/ But the caveat is I'm defining the question as who was better between the two, NOT who was greater. Hobbs obviously has a great case for that based more on his longevity and adaptability...

1v1 Debate Topic ideas, Rules: subshakerz vs kyear2

We want to do this duel guys? @kyear2 @subshakerz My thought was that you guys could channel your cricket debating prowess towards a single issue of interest, in an organized, judged debate. So something like a scoring system 0-10 based on each criteria below: 1: Soundness of position...

How would you rank the "second tier" of modern Test bowlers?

How would you rank them? You can feel free to exclude Ashwin in your thought process here, but I think he belongs. Has a very competitive average given he's a spinner, and the highest wicket total by far of this group, with WPI also being very high. He's not as easy to push aside as Philander...

    Geoff Boycott vs Cheteshwar Pujara

2 walls. 1 was probably a bit more skilled, while the other was definitely less selfish. All things considered they were probably exactly as useful as one another.

    Cranes or Loons?

Which one of these sacred birds of the water plays a greater role in your life happiness? Poll included, because it's a great nuisance that the other thread didn't have one.

Ray Lindwall vs Waqar Younis (Test bowling)

Both players with great peaks, but whose averages would look immensely better if you cherry pick out a later career decline. Waqar had a better peak I'd say and more marked fall. However Lindwall was absolute bog standard the last 17 Tests of his career as well.

Does this hypothetical Test allrounder exist?

Batting average >= 39.00 Bowling average <= 31.00 WPM >= 2.00 On their own these are each relatively attainable benchmarks, but together I don't think it's ever been attained. Mind, I think the minimum player achieving this ends up being meaningfully worse of a player than say a Jacques Kallis...

    Most "International" Player of All-Time

I count 11 countries Pakistan England Bangladesh Sri Lanka Hong Kong India Canada South Africa USA Australia Jamaica/St Kitts and Nevis/West indies Is Shahid Afridi the most "international" cricketer of all time (for some reason I personally doubt it)? Bonus points if we can find a player...

Botham vs Hadlee (Greater Test All-Rounder)

For me Botham was just that much more of a demonstrated matchwinner with the bat than Hadlee, so edges it as an all-rounder. But it's close.
