*Official* Fourth Test at Trent Bridge

Hardly insane. Far from rare in England. And England scored nearly 400 followed by an Aussie 1st wicket 100 stand. These are far from unplayable conditions - just not a road (and the cricket is better for it).

I concur. Athers analysed it well with the replays. A number of balls he could just about leave alone and then one a little bit closer. The ball swinging delightfully late here.

Circus music. Nice bit of juggling and Clarke wearing the clown feet.

Four balls in. It would be dangerous to play a Shane Warne drinking game. Down one every time he mentions "the great Australian team that I played in which were perfect all the time" and you'd be on the floor within half an hour.

Warne is dreadful on Sky. I tend to turn the sound off now when he comes on, sometimes I give it 5 minutes but wish i hadn't. Ponting is good though.

He's groping like a 1970s Saturday evening TV star (one for the UK audience).

I umpired Zampa the other week. Let's just say if if he played at The Oval and I was in the crowd I'd fear for my safety.

Don't recall it, and very much doubt it.

    Walk or not walk

Former bowler but a warm, gentle heart. If I gave a 'wrong' decision in his favour because of that, or in favour of a friend because they were a friend, or against someone who'd been an arse all game, I wouldn't umpire again, That's the way it is.

Deadful hug attempt - drop Bell.

    Walk or not walk

I had one last season, The ball goes through to the keeper who is standing up to a pace bowler. There is a huge appeal (this team would). As I'm about to declare "not out" the batsman walks off. My colleague and I meet for the between wicket chat "I heard nothing" he says, neither did I - and...

    Walk or not walk

It depends on the level as I've said before. Also some umpires, like me, are 'gentler' ion this regard than others, And actually, yes, many do manage to show nothing.

    Walk or not walk

Yeah, a lot of batsmen are the same, as with the bowlers who 'only appeal when it's out'.......... We notice looks as well...............

He pushed hard at a ball that, at worst, moved a fraction. Not unplayable with a decent technique That there was, I understand, only one play and miss during the innings suggests that there was nothing unplayable. I didn't see a ball that 'jagged'. That is a 290-320 first innings pitch I...

    Walk or not walk

I've had that one from a bowler, on an LBW appeal but it was done in a jocular manner - as was my reply "I've reviewed it, still not out :D". Some I know would have reported that. Depending upon the way in which it was done I might now mention it in the post match report but it could mean the...

*Official* Fourth Test at Trent Bridge

Have heard some (in other social media) claiming that this was a dreadful pitch and a disgrace to cricket (oh, and 'cheating'). Comments like "it's so green you can't distinguish it from the rest of the field". I'm currently looking at the wickets on 5. Rogers: Straightened a fraction off the...
