5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

He seems to get a lot of good balls, is he unlucky, or is it more that his balance issues make the good balls look unplayable?

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

He's not great vs the ball coming back in, isn't amazing vs spin, and a shaky starter. These become exhaserbated in 3th/4th innings when there's more in it for the spinners/pacers get more inconsistent bounce.

I just think it's fundamentally disingenuous having watched Jadeja to think since 2016 he was a top 6 quality bat. I would say that only in the last four years really when he started scoring tons.

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Supposedly he’s like Steve Smith in that he gets so fixated that he struggles to sleep over the course of a Test match, although that’s where the similarities to Smith end (he hasn’t been banned from captaining his country for one)

...with the higher ceiling. Also, Botham doesn't have many not outs because that's a trade-off for very aggressive batsmen. I will take his 14 hundreds and much larger run threshold when batting with the tail in return for the comparatively small downside of finishing few of his innings unbeaten.

He looks a jittery, overanxious batsman at the best of times. Not a surprise he melts under pressure in second innings. For a while I used to think of him as Ian Bell's successor but turns out Bell, fragile as he could be, was a model of composure compared to this guy.

*Official* New Zealand in Zimbabwe 2025 (Tests)

...back stiffness on day three of the BLACKCAPS nine-wicket victory last week after taking three for 28 from his 10 overs in the second innings. He departs Zimbabwe today and will undergo further medical assessment on arrival in New Zealand. Auckland Aces left-arm seamer Ben Lister, who was...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Okay so I just took a look at Pope’s stats and can someone explain to me what’s happening with him in the second innings??? I have obviously been living under a rock to never notice it before.

What we learned from the 5th Test

How would that negate the "freshness factor"? Getting a new bowler that has been resting for 3 days rather than bowling/fielding for an innings

    Better All Rounder Pair

Fun fact: Botham's record is worse at 6 than either 7 or 5. Jadeja and Botham are pretty equal as batsmen by now.

    Smith's 2017 BGT vs Viv's 1980/81 Pakistan tour

Andreson got injured after bowling 4 overs in first innings in first match. Archer is quality tho

    Better All Rounder Pair

No I said Imran was a 6/7th borderline bat, like Jadeja is now to me. Botham is a pure no. 6. As is Stokes. Btw that isn't 25 tests it is 25 innings away at 6.

    Better All Rounder Pair

The argument was whether he is good enough overall as a pure top 6 bat and I argue at best he is borderline. If he didn't bat much in the top six away I would hesitate to place him there but not so for Botham or Stokes. Understood?

It totally implies it's due to Home advantage when that's just not true as a whole for his batting record. Jadeja averages 37 at Home, 34.5 in Aus, 35 in NZ, 41 in Eng and 39 in WI. Played less than 3 innings anywhere else (SA and SL). It's legit one of the most balanced batting records by anyone.

Is Javed Miandad an ATG test batsman?

What I'm saying is that there are other Asian (also some SENA) bats who have a home/away disparity that is worse. Jayawardene, Warner, Sehwag, just off the top of my head. Even Root has a meaningful (though not quite as big) Home/Away disparity, in spite of England being generally a lower run...

Is Javed Miandad an ATG test batsman?

...should take home numbers for Javed. He had great numbers at home, but then the same batsman when playing away in Asia, Javed in Ind/SL - 25 innings, zero ton, avg 43-44 Without great home numbers, I don't think anyone will be disussing ATG status for Javed. So it comes down to who takes...
