Thanos brings up his fifty with a boundary. He’s played a top innings so far

Hope has sucked all momentum out of this innings.

...Nicholls ton v this absolute rabble of a Zim attack. Sigh. It's hard because Henry Nicholls is a genuine good person, and played some innings' that were of massive consequence to us and 10 Test tons is not to be sneezed at. But as Southee was, he's taking a spot that holds back...

That’s 2/2 soft dismissals in this innings

3 batsman in the same innings pass 150 in a test match. Can't remember the last time that happened. Williamson missing out not playing here & trying to bridge that century gap between himself & Smith.

    All-Time World XIs: Discussion Thread

Anwar often seems to be forgotten a bit amongst opener discussions. Played 5 innings as a non-opener which brought his overall average down by a whopping 1.5 Nice from @Line and Length to recognise Simpson, I think Worrell should be captain but Simpson getting a vote is very well deserved...

5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Is there also an issue about whether he can handle the pressure of batting in the 4th innings?

Better Batsman : Jadeja vs Imran

That's fine. What if he completely fails in the next SA or NZ series. Will he be back in a tie? The point was whether he is proven or not in NZ and I don't think IK in NZ by these batters standards, where mid 30s is a pass, is considered a question mark. Unless you think we should disregard...

Better Batsman : Jadeja vs Imran

...with bringing up points with an advantage to Imran to Jadeja in batting. Very fair if someone brings up valid points in his favor, but not 2 innings in NZ when he scored 71 and 69 on highways. And do not pretend that I said that recent series was full of green mambas. I never said it. I was...

I looked it up. Kane Williamson averaged 33 from his first 33 innings (18 tests), Ravi averages 36.51 from 31 innings, 16 tests. Williamson was younger I guess? I don't think Rachin is better, but I dont think stats are the place too look to demonstrate that fact.

Better Batsman : Jadeja vs Imran

Imran played much more away from home though.

Better Batsman : Jadeja vs Imran

...for Jadeja does not make sense if you look at avg runs scored in country where both played most number of tests. Talkign about 3 or 6 innings in SA playing or not playing hardly proves any point given, Runs per wicket in India during Jadeja's career: 30 ( One of the hardest place to bat...

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

I don't honestly think there is a single uncapped batsman in the entire country who would be capable of averaging 45 or above in the medium term, especially if Test pitches here remain the way they have been over the last few seasons. I suppose just a difference in cricketing philosophy, when it...

    Absurdly Awesome Cricket Stats

I know there’s been a lot of discussion re keepers so here’s a shoutout to a lesser known one (and his bowlers that day) First innings of the 3rd test against Pakistan, India bowled 187.5 overs, without giving up a single extra. In response Pakistan gave up 24 extras in 128.1 overs. So...

...wrong side of 30. Often those other batsmen to which you refer have also shown that there's going to be lengthy gaps between those quality innings and that they're unlikely to average more than about 40. For instance Ward's played 38 matches for only two tons, and averages 34. Such players...

    The Records and Milestones thread

According to Andrew Samson (and I cannot read the entire blog as it's behind a paywall), Root took one of Tendulkar's records in the Oval Test (an unwanted one). Apparently, it was the 113th time he had gone wicketless in an innings when bowling, which has overtaken Sachin's previous number.

*Official* Road to the 2025-26 Ashes

...all, not disputing that Peake has promise but I am a far bigger fan of batsmem who have actually shown the ability to play numerous quality innings at either Shield or other FC cricket than those who have yet to do so. If at the end of the season he has absolutely gunned it at Shield level...
