When rating test batsmen since 1970, do you think their ability against pace or their ability against spin is more important?

Definitely Pace these days, modern team composition is 3 pacers + 1 spinner, most teams rely on pace, it barely spins outside Asia and games in SENA don't always go day 5.

It's always been pace. I was annoyed that Kimber uses the spin justification to suggest Gavaskar should be so high.

Well if you have enough ability to play out pace, even if not scoring massively scoring against them, and then dominate spin, it works just as well without looking flashy
