The Woakes wicket is a huge bonus for India when their attack wasn't looking very sharp and the new ball is still some ways off. Frankly a terrible shot in the circumstances though I admit I never understand why batsmen play any attacking shots in these kinds of situations.

Yeah the attack is a worry. Woakes probably a bit unlucky with his first innings figures. I like Carse but don’t think you can have him and Tongue in the team at the same time. Atkinson a big miss. Archer and Wood make a difference sure, but it’s basically a bonus if you have either of them
Oh OK, discussing this is more fun that watching the last rites.

If think it's plain that we need to be asking different questions of their batters next time, but it's a hard one as none of the three in this game deserve to be retained. Woakes does have a stellar record at Lord's unless they prepare a road. Atkinson would be welcome, but I have no idea when he'll be available. @Molehill will remind us that his man Robinson is fit again. The Durham contingent will push their man Potts. Archer just seems an enormous gamble given how little FC cricket he's played. In other words I don't really know how to play it.

Norwood's on Fire
Archer seems nailed on. Looking at the forecast there will be no overhead assistance. No idea who I’d pick tbh.

Do you think it makes a difference here? India have batted and bowled much better than England
For a while it looked as though England could have skittled India out for less than 300, then it's a completely different game, the bowlers have to take the lion's share of the blame for this, because once the oppo score nearly 600, it's almost impossible to win from there. Bowling first worked out well at Headingley, even when India finished Day 1 on 359-3

Does Atkinson walk straight back into the team? A short turnaround, and a rather chastening amount of time spent in the field, so they might ring the changes, but at least Archer has had one FC game since his injury, Atkinson hasn't played at all since Zimbabwe. Woakes has looked quite innocuous this series, and his batting, which has probably been the one factor that's nudged him into selection contention at times, has gone downhill (Atkinson is a better batter these days, Carse and Archer can both hold a bat too), so I'd probably drop him for Archer...though we do have to be very careful with his workload of course!
