Green should be there if not for fitness. I'm just not convinced he's physically up to it. Needs to get through an extended run without having to rest or retiring hurt

Think the next few Gloucestershire games will determine a lot if Green is ready to play tests again or not quite. It was cramp that led to him leaving the field in that recent game, may be just as simple as a side effect of not spending any time in the middle in a lot of months, if he gets through the next couple fine it is no worry imo but if the problem persists that is when a cautious approach may be justified.

In a way it creates more questions than answers if he is back, because realistically he shouldn't be batting any higher than 4. That isn't where the potential vacancies lie, but I don't believe in batting someome much higher in Tests than they do in FC cricket (that last ton came at 5) so the idea of him coming in at 3 for Marnus is really not one I think that much of.

I suppose Smith could slide up one to 3 to open up 4 for Green, but I honestly highly doubt he truly wants to do that. Head is an absolute lock at 5 imo, and for 6 I would probably want someone who bowls at least respectable seam seeing as Green still isn't fit to do so yet, which means Webster is who I am leaning to at the moment

Cramp is exactly what I'm worried about. His medical condition predisposes him to it.
You are talking about the kidney issue he has right?

I was only originally thinking of the back problems for my earlier post admittedly, wasn't aware of a link between a kidney condition and cramp but this is definitely a subject where you would know far more than myself

So after Green's 112 and 3 batting #5 on return from injury for Gloucs he followed up with 4 and 2 vs Leics batting #5 and #6 (and of course didn't bowl)

Meanwhile in a blast from the past, Ian Holland of the 2012 Allan Border appointed "Australian cricket Superstar" fame has 3/36, 52 and 4/32 for Leics in the same match

Actually Holland tops Div 2 most wkts this season with 20 wkts @ 15.40 opening the bowling plus averaging 34.60 batting top 6. Good on him, I thought he faded out years ago so really happy to see he's doing so well using his UK passport

Green is obvs a long term player for Aus, as long as he stays fit but Webster has to keep his spot after finally getting into the team.

I see only 3 options for Aus middle order for WTC final

Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Webster
Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Green
Smith, Green, Head, Webster

So far I'm going with the 1st option. It all comes down to how well Green and Labuschagne do in County Cricket imo as Labushagne has been out of form for a long time, while Smith and Head are locks and Webster deserves to be there

Needs to force his way back in. Can't just walk into the side on potential and past performances (which were sporadic at best anyway).

That said I would take him ahead of Marnus right now

Has Marcus Harris officially given up trying to win back the Aussie opener spot as he's batting 4 for Lancs?

As per usual in England he's doing well though, 394 runs @ 78.80 in 3 games.

Dan Hughes not given a state contract.

People will look at his List A stats and wonder how he never got a game for Aus
Definitely a weird career to look back on. I guess at his age it's not a massive surprise to see NSW move on entirely, but it still does look a touch odd considering he is still getting a gig as an overseas player for Sussex.

Bryce Street getting cut and not getting a contract offer from anywhere else is a little more strange imo. I know he had somewhat of a lean stretch at Shield level for a while, but considering the lack of decent FC opening options around it is surprising (and somewhat disappointing imo) that someone who has been genuinely good at this level in the not super distant past while still being reasonably young can't get a gig anywhere.

Would have been quite happy to have him down here tbqh

Surprised SA didn't try to pick him up. Did they sign another opening option I've missed?

Yeah, your man Douwtjie Hoogenboezem has been signed. He mainly opened for the WA 2nds when he played and did bloody well at times, was genuinely pleased when it was announced he was moving to South Australia.

Still absolutely think Street would have been very handy though
