English Domestic Season 2025

Chin Music

International 12th Man
With all the dry hot weather this spring, seems surprsing that the spinners havnt taken more wkts.
Probably says as much about the quality of the spinners as it does the wickets. Harmer for one seems to be on the down slope and the English lads are either not really that good or still learning their trade. That said, I think when we say 'hot' we are talking relative. It's not like it has been much above 25 degrees. It probably needs to actually be hot to start breaking up the roads.

Ben Foakes with 174no but I guess that ship sailed a long time ago.
Disregarding his batting, which is of course excellent, who actually is the best keeper of actually keeping.?
Is it really Smith.
Always thought Ben Brown was a bit unfortunate never to get a look in.

It's Foakes and I doubt it's particularly close. I always thought Simpson was a decent keeper before he came to Sussex, now it seems he's become a solid batsman too.

Some pitches have been pretty green, at least at the start of the matches. Moreover it has only really warmed up in the last few weeks.

Beau Webster (Warwickshire) and Cam Green (Gloucestershire) both named in the Australia Test squad for the final v Sth Africa. Brendan Doggert (Durham) travelling reserve - whatever that means when he's already over here.

Bedingham (Durham), Verreynne (Notts) and Paterson (Middlesex) already named in Sth Africa squad.

Perhaps they need the Pakistani fans like they used in the series last year, if they are not already using them at Ciderbad!

"We are also working closely with the Grounds Team to look at how we can perform better at Emirates Old Trafford, having experienced the challenging conditions to bowl teams out twice."

I think he means "once".

Except when Surrey are the visitors, where it appears the done thing for pathetic smaller counties is to roll out the flattest of roads to negate us.

Foakes batting at Test level declined but you have to bear in mind he usually batted in the SC where runs were probably harder to score. If England had a more settled top order then you could have your best keeper average 30.

I recall counties in strife abruptly switching captains in mid season but yes not this early before.

Something had to be done as you say.
Until the book comes out, we wont know who the prime mover was. Captains have often stood aside, not this early, but they are often the instigator.
Employment contracts might be harder to terminate at this stage in the season and cost more for a debt heavy club.
One or two wins would provide a momentum change but can't see where it comes from at the moment.
Maybe they / Anderson will have Derbyshire 78/6 on Friday before lunch.....oh wait.

Will captaincy prevent Harris scoring 1000 before end of May? 749 with fine weather and 4 innings ahead.

Discussed a lot of times. But too much County Championship is played in April/May. Would like their to be a 50 over competition (Like the old B&H Cup ) to run alongside some county championship matches

According to some rumours you may get your wish next year. However as the season advances, the prospects of change to the schedule next year must surely diminish.

This farcical loan system is happening again.
Jake Ball on loan again after ONE match for Durham earlier in the season, now is on a TWO match loan for Kent starting today.

It's a joke, don't mind the system, but it's becoming ridiculous, you should only be able to go to ONE county on loan in a season.
That's only my opinion of course.

Surprised Kent didn't look into Darren Stevens availabilty.
