English Domestic Season 2025

Got a lot of respect for Benkenstein as a player but he was a disaster at Gloucester by all accounts.
Benkenstein's championship record now
2022 10th place (last div 1) relegated 2 wins 8 defeats
2023 8th place (last div 2) 0 wins 6 defeats
Sacked by Gloucester 2 years into a 3 year contract, bet he couldn't believe Lancs took him on
2024 9th place relegated 3 wins 6 defeats
2025 winless scraped two draws in the first two games and counting

Doubt it. Mahmood has being trying to prove he is getting fit each year for ages. First time he has taken 2 wickets in a championship innings since early 2022 despite playing each year. In his defence dont think Ahmed was good enough for some of Mahmood's better balls.

Think they panicked with Turner and their coach recommended a schoolboy he used to coach back in Sth Africa.
Hartley is their only experienced front line spinner.

All three are only on England's one day radar, surely. If that.

Mismanagement around. I read they not even putting on concerts as promoter is being sued for safety concerns.
Am I misremembering this, or did Mahmood only want a white ball deal with Lancashire until they changed the rules about NOCs?

Caleb Jewell, for Derbyshire, 61, 51no, 83, 73, 16, 71.
Just needs a century when he's in this form, but a great start by him.

Also good to see Luke Procter finally convert the many 50's he gets into a century this time.
Career best 150, only his 9th 1st class ton.
Great county pro though.
Better than a lot who have been released by Old Trafford management. Long list of released players still playing 1st XI cricket for other counties but allegedly not good enough for Old Traffird. From Simpson onward. Problems pre date Benkenstein afterall someone appointed him and stuck with him over the winter. Board have huge questions to answer.

Hameed, Davies, Procter, Guest, Reece, Simpson, Clark, Lamb, Parkinson, Morley, Gleeson. 12th man Rob Jones if an overseas needed try Hasan Ali

Don't have a problem with importing a previously succesful overseas such as Harris. Stuart Law was a good signing. Better than taking a punt on a Joe Burns or Tom Bruce or an all rounder who doesn't bowl and bats at 8. But yes, I understand the point. Lancs recruitment always hit and miss: Wayne Wayne, Imran Tahir, Nathan Buck, Kabir Ali.

There are also others released from the age group set up like notably Flintoff, Critchley, Cal Parkinson but also Rob Lord, Ben Aitchison, Mattie McKiernan, Ben Gibbon, Taylor Cornall all relatively recently.

Suspect we will never get to the root of the problem until someone writes a book about the dressing room.

Looking like four of the 5 Div 1 games will end as draws.

Ludicrous amount of draws across the opening few weeks - not helped by appalling pitches such as the one at Hove this week.

When County Cricket - in particular, the Championship - is fighting for its existence, it's very disappointing.

We were very fortunate in the opening round of the season with the weather, even on flat pitches that resulted in draws, the matches were still exciting, but in the last two rounds by the age old problems with weather and light have reared their heads. OK British weather is what it is, but you’d think in the 100+ years of CC cricket, we’d have done something about bad light…
