    South Africa team selection

Knights squad back in Div 1. Kept faith with the squad that earned promotion mainly. Room for Muthusamy to be added on top of Senokwane, Phangiso & van Dyk. Quite like van Dyk. Bowling quickly and got the SA A call-up despite being in Div 2. Dian Forrester a new name was their player of the...

Lions unsurprisingly beating the Titans tonight and are in the final. They just have all the bases covered compared to the rest. Dolphins v Warriors tomorrow in Durban.

Two excellent signings for Div 2

    South Africa team selection

WP do need more versatile batsmen. You could probably say Vallie, Moore, Bedingham, D Smith, Kaplan are all better red ball players than white ball. Mpongwana only showing in 50-overs so far. WP produce enough of their own to be fine but I would try get Dayyaan Galiem back & hopefully we have...

Janneman probably going to Knights but who knows maybe even Titans considering most of the time their Proteas are away.

    South Africa team selection

Boland have signed Grant Roelofsen (Dolphins), Blayde Capell (SWD) & Keith Dudgeon (Tuskers). Pretty decent to be fair to them.

    South Africa team selection

Nothing particular yet but we know de Zorzi & Burger got a CSA contracts. Think it's 17 pro contracts & 2+ rookies Really could do with unearthing some seamers/quicks. Vallie (does he stay on?) Moore Bedingham (is he actually contracted?) Verreynne Kaplan (promotion from rookie) Bird D Smith...

Aaron Phangiso will be playing first division cricket at 40 for Free State next season. Northern Cape been unlucky not to earn promotion with 2 decent pick-ups in Tian Koekemoer & Stefan Tait from Tuskers. Will be hard to look past them for promotion next season.

    SA Domestic History

Roy Alastair McLean was born at Pietermaritzburg and educated at Hilton College. As a boy he excelled at cricket, rugby and hockey. He played his first-class cricket for Natal and made his Test debut in 1951 against England at Old Trafford. Batting at No.7, he made 20 and 19 as England won by...

    SA Domestic History

I see it's behind a paywall now but some of the stories. The drawn 1952/53 series that changed SA cricket in many ways. Things were tough right after the war. The pendulum swung this way and that on the final day. Endean fell for a characteristically sedate 70, Watkins hit 50. Tension was...

    SA Domestic History

There has been a few very good dual rugby union and cricket players. Errol Stewart, Eddie Barlow (Transvaal centre), Peter Kirsten (WP fly-half). Of course Tuppy Owen-Smith & Clive van Ryneveld both captained England. Kim Elgie played for Scotland. Herschelle Gibbs would have in a different...

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Was chatting with my old man and had no idea his old man became mates with Sid Hird. What an interesting career, playing for NSW, Lancashire (10 years in the Lancs league), Eastern Province and Border. Moving to SA after the war to coach but played some Currie Cup. His story in this Currie Cup...
