he's got 3 more. There's still another Test.

your problem withthat analysis and if you did stats you'd know this perfectly, is that while 375 and 400 are outliers, Sachin's 241 and 217 are not. So you've penalised Lara while Sachin gets away because he hasn't scored very high scores. An interesting stat would be to drop the not outs and do...

**Official** West Indies in England Thread

i'd rather have Jacobs. The team is very strong in batting. Baugh hasb't yet impressed me with the gloves and i think his height is a major disadvantage esp against the quicker bowlers like Edwards and Lawson.

no it doesn't but trying to belittle the man by placing obvious non-candidates is.

this is ripe.....Gilchrist better than Lara?????next thing, Jayasuria is going to make it ahead of him or perhaps Afridi. Any other names you want to add to (further) contaminate the pot?

but people who make stupid statements that he tends to play stupid shots can't explain that.

what utter rubbish! There is a debate as to if Lara should be reagarded in the top 5 batsmen of all time. If you are going to support it then you provide reasons and evidence to back yourself and vice versa. I have done that. The others have simply stated that he shouldn't be there.....on what...

bowling fast and bowling well are two different things. Shoib Aktar and Brett Lee can tell you about that.

marc, that is ONE STAT. The average. and by the way, Samaraweera's average just fell below Lara's. Goes to show what playing only 27 innings can do. Over Lara's career, there have been more than jsut that one STAT. In addition, and this isn't just me, soem folks at Wisden also thought so, Lara...

Lara averages 53.50 vs 58.61 for Smith (the highest for the group). That aside, how do they compare??? The simple answer: They don't.

He got struck by lightning. IMO i think he doesn't have a role to play esp if WI is looking to youth.

*Congratulations* Brian Lara 10,000 Test Runs!

If Lara can't make your all time 5 then that's a clear case of bias, and regardless of how biased you want to say i am i can say clearly that Lara must be there. What esle can you judge a batsman on but milestones???? Match Dravid or Tendulkar or Ponting or Hayden to EACH of these milestones...
