Most favourite innings of Sachin Tendulkar

This was a fantastic innings. Umpire did him (he was given a wrong decision). His 90 against Aus in 1996 was up there as well. That front-foot hook shot of McGrath was simply out of the world. His hundred against England in Edgbaston in 1996 was a great innings as well.

    Brian Lara a true Gent

I think it depends on the expectations one has. For me, you can replace Lara's name in your quote with Sachin's. I would hear the talk in media about Sachin being second only to Don, and then I would see he and his team being blown away by Donald for totals of 100 and 66 etc. I don't recall...

    DoG's Top 100 Test Batsmen: 50-26

Thanks DoG. You had a post with the ratings for the greatest Test innings of all time. IIRC, Lara's innings came out on top with a rating of 24 or 25. Can you point me to that post? I am unable to find it through CW search.

    DoG's Top 100 Test Batsmen: 50-26

DoG, Could you give a rating for this series of Viv Richards (against Imran & co. in Pakistan in 80-81)? HowSTAT! Series Analysis Especially in below two test matches: HowSTAT! Match Scorecard HowSTAT! Match Scorecard Considering the circumstances, Viv's performance in this series doesn't seem...

    Ambrose v McGrath

If we look closely at stats of Ambrose against India, they are totally opposite to what one would expect. He played only 2 series against India. Both at home. Once in 88 when he averaged 50+ (as a bowler), and another 9 years later in 97 when he averaged 30. Interestingly, in 88, when Ambrose...

    The most underrated test innings??

:) Honestly, at the time, it looked to me as if he would have fancied his chances in prison better than facing Marshall's persistent bumpers from around the wicket. The video reinforced my thought.

    The most underrated test innings??

Actually all 3 Indian centuries, made by Manjerakar, Shastri and Sidhu, in that 88-89 India - West Indies test series were very courageous. All of them took so many blows to the body. There was just no place to hide. They just remind me of what it was to bat against the Windies in the 80s...

    Helmets in cricket

Viv Richards was hit couple of times (the most famous one being this). But if anything, that increases his stature in my eyes. Yes, he was one of the finest players of the hook shot. His genius in being able to "flat-bat" express bouncers was amazing. I remember Thommo talking about that famous...

Pakistan - West Indies face offs from 1976-91

Below is an old but interesting article on the "dog-fights" in Test matches between Pakistan and West Indies from 1976-91 (time-frame beginning after Australian rout of Windies in 75-76) during which time West Indies totally dominated every team - home and abroad - losing just one Test series...

Match Winning Batsmen in Test Cricket

It is not always easy to determine whether a batsman's innings was significant in winning the match. Winning a Test match is generally a team effort and imo it is bowlers who play akey role in winning Test matches most of the time. So I am taking this question as the list of batsmen who did...

    Best After The Don

Please get your facts right first. The 3rd Test in Ashes 2005 was a draw. Aussies never lost a single Test in that 2005 Ashes series when McGrath was playing. Now, I am not saying McGrath was a superman and Aussies won each and every Test when he bowled. Of course not. But, to me, as far as Aus...

    Greatest Bowler

Just in my case, maybe I watched much more of Marshall (and West Indian bowlers) terrorizing tail-enders than I did of Lillee, so it probably has left a psychological bias. I have no issues with short-pitched bowling as a strategy. But when it becomes ridiculously apparent that the aim of the...

    Best After The Don

It isn't about particular bowler Vs particular batsman. To me, Aussie Test attack was great in 90s and 2000s mainly because of McGrath. Without him, it was just half the attack, imo. It is interesting to see the Aussie team performance stats with and without McGrath (while McGrath was still...

    Greatest Bowler

McGrath for me. He is vastly underrated. Marshall relied too much on physical intimidation for my liking. I guess, the rules at that time allowed him to do that and he took full advantage of it. Umpires were often too weak to warn him. Even listening to this rare, hazy video would give one an...
