The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Kinda want to put each player in the decade they most belong in, not distribute to create the strongest teams. Better to leave Dhoni in the 2010s team on account of the amount of time he played for.

I feel like this one should be stronger, but Watson and Flintoff weren't suited down the order. This batting lineup is a mess of good bats. Watson either opens or gets dropped IMO. Need to hoick Dhoni from the 2010s :p

I like the players. Might be tempted to drop a bowler with Watson/Yuvraj/Symonds making up a decent 5th between them.

You think Hadlee is the worst of the 3?

I wouldn't say anyone is too good to be a 5th, but you definitely need to have some other AR strength in the other bowlers, and pick the best bats outside of those 5. The real problem with him is that he doesn't really suit any batting position, despite being good. Afridi might bowl 2 overs a...

You don't really need Ponting or a keeper. Get it done.

The amount of bowling in the 2000s team cracks me up.

You don't need a specific number 4. Kallis was a number 3 anyway. I'd say Watson to open as you need the extra bowling anyway.

What makes so many people go for a middle ground on batting ability? If you think it's important, Hadlee and Imran (or Wasim). And If not, Mcgrath and Steyn.

Which current players are/will be ATGs?

Marshall fails this one as well if you are running it by country. 32 In NZ from 3 tests. Ambrose and Garner are the most uniform by country. Worst of 25.

    2024 Ranking of Batsmen Poll

    Amla Simpson Lloyd.

Why is it viewed as more important

It's easy to see the the value the value of bowling ARs. At a basic level, you can just add runs or partnership runs and get some idea. Everyone bats. It's much harder to estimate the value of quality fielding/a batting AR. For fielding, you never know when another player would have taken a...

    Best Attack

The debate on the merits of home/away performance aside, wouldn't you assume a world XI is playing everywhere, with no home ground, and only give credit to home performances to the same degree you would any other country?

    Best Attack

10 years is your pick. Doesn't matter what length you want to pick as a peak though. 3 of the 4 bowlers with the best peaks ever are in this poll. He doesn't match them over whatever length you want to pick. I do give him credit for longevity. But Hadlee and Imran are both better bowlers with...
