What would be your XI to beat this SC XI?

Considering 2 are spin friendly and 1 is an unprepared lottery pitch, wouldn't jadeja be better though as opposed to one of Wasim or Bumrah. With Ashwin and Murali both being off spinners, it would give the SC XI someone who turns it the other way as well.

off the top of my head. i'm sure there are disgustingly obvious candidates i forgot about but i'm pretty sure all these lads went pretty well in asian conditions. the number 7 position was the trickiest tbh, de villiers is totally wasted there and comes up the order on lottery pitches given his heroics on that india tour.

Yeah him over Ashwin or Waqar or Bumrah. Strengthens the batting and fielding significantly while his bowling in SC also beats them.

devils advocate, two of these games are played on pancakes. is jadeja one of the guys you want to be asking to bowl on that track?

Why? Jadeja easily improves the side in place of Ashwin. Also, in SC I will prefer him to come in for Waqar/Bumrah. Both Imran and Wasim were great in SC as well and two pacers are enough.

You don't need 5 bowlers when majority is going to be spin. Imran and Wasim are good enough as pacers while you go with Ashwin Jadeja and Murali. The team bats till 10 and the fielding goes up a notch.

How does Jadeja easily improve the team over Ashwin? Ashwin is clearly a better bowler. And I want Murali and Ashwin there as the greatest bowlers for SC conditions bowling in tandem. Imran at 7 with Ash, Akram to follow is good though imo.

Him over Bumrah (or Waqar/Wasim) makes more sense

Jadeja's home ground Rajkot is a pancake. He has triple centuries and big wicket hauls in the same match several times there.

I know you can't pick Jadeja in your side, so I'll let it go easily. But he so very easily makes the side. Actually should be one of the first names to be penciled in for a SC side.

1. he gives variety while both Murali and Ashwin are offspinners.
2. He is a much better batsman than Ashwin. You may say we don't need his batting with Wasim at 9 but against a atg senaw side, every bit is important. Jadeja has done many a rescue in India as well along with Pant
3. In fielding, there is no comparison. The selected side doesn't have many great fielders with Kapil also not in. It desperately needs a good fielder if they are coming up against a good fielding senaw side
4. In SC, both Ashwin and Jadeja are equals in bowling. Check their averages, check when they've been given the ball etc. It will all be similar.
But having said all this, I will go with Jadeja for Bumrah and not Ashwin since 2 pacers are good enough.

He's only played in India though. That is a valid issue. No games in Pak or Ban, just 2 games in Sl where he was decent

Right now, the pak and bd pitches are aiding spin big time too. And anywhere it spins, Jadeja will rule the roost with the ball. He gets ineffective with ball only if the ball stops spinning but will be effective with bat in those cases too.

They're not equals. Ashwin picked up 1 WPM higher than Jadeja, proved himself in SL as well, and also picked up a higher % of top-middle order bats. Grew up watching them both. Ashwin was always given the ball first for a reason. + He could bowl well with a newish ball.

You realise I normally get accused of being anti-Ashwin? Now I am anti-Jadeja because I prefer Ashwin?
You're just being ridiculous.
No you can afford five of the best bowlers without any real reduction in batting quality.
Three pacers who can be rotated in short spells, two spinners, perfect.
You don't need Jadejas extra runs at the expense of Ashwin being absolutely deadly.
You arent dropping Wasim or Bumrah for Jadeja either sorry.

Ashwin showed this on relatively flatter Indian wickets like the 4th test of Ind Aus 2023 when even Jadeja is neutralised.

How about as a concession we can have Jadeja as 12th man to be used on the more spin friendly surfaces.
