4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

He was England's MOTS in 2015, 2 tons and 2 50s. But while Smith, and Rogers, scored a few more runs, how, where and when Root got his was more impressive.

By close of day 1 in the 4th Test, in bowler friendly conditions, he had more than doubled Australia's 1st innings score and remained not out.

In the 1st Test, he came in with England at **** all for three and scored 130-odd.

No century at Edgbaston, the other game England won, but he was 90ish for once out in a fairly low scoring game.

He did bugger all on the flat London tracks, one of which was a dead rubber, but given the series ended 3-2, he was pretty much the difference. I would consider that series defining.
I still wonder if that series would have turned out totally differently had Haddin not spilt a regulation chance before lunch on the first day at Cardiff with Root still in single figures. On such things entire series can turn.

Nearly about to bring up their 150 partnership without any fanfare.

Somewhat sedate times.

India are reeling for the 9 count & are begging for that killer blow.

Never really been of a mind to stat pad, Stokes. Which is admirable, I suppose, if you don't care for those of us who have the statsguru tabs open.

This on BBC:

Joe Root has now scored 586 runs against Ravindra Jadeja across his career. In the history of Test cricket, no batter has ever scored more runs off a single bowler.

586 runs, 1284 balls, 8 wkts, Avg 73.25

Somewhat surprised..... Would've thought Sobers or Hutton or someone before that surely must've hammered some poor bastard to all parts of the field.
