4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

Watching the BBC highlights right now and you can faintly hear the TMS commentary happening concurrently in the background. Quite distracting.

Anyway, is this the best prolonged quality of bowling we've seen from Stokes throughout a series? He's been our best bowler pretty comfortably. Could say that fifth bowler quality has been the difference.

I was at a game where he was timed at that and wasn’t convinced. Sure he is capable of quicker than what he showed in more recent England games but I didn’t see him as at that level.
I saw him clocked at 96mph in one game, when he burst on the scene for England he was in the high 80s to low 90s, but he did get significantly slower throughout last summer, turns out playing 6 Tests on the bounce is tough on the body…

Stokes is now just the 4th player in Test history with 10 centuries and 5 fivefers (Botham, Sobers, Kallis is pretty cool company),

Thought he was all but done with bowling, but agreed, can’t remember him being so good for such a sustained period.

Tbf in this game it's the second bowler quality that's been the difference (and Bumrah bowled as poorly as I've ever seen him bowl too)

crazy statistics!

haters will say Sehwag did it as an opener (good point)
Pant has got to that mark (90 sixes/6s) quicker than Sehwag because he doesn't have to face the new ball like Sehwag did as an Opening batsman and as an Opening batsman you need some luck to survive the new ball - its also a test of temperament and technique.

Still though for Pant to get to 90 sixes....great effort....he'll go past that mark too.

Whatever it takes!!!
I dont think England were ever ahead of the game at this stage in any of the previous tests. This is a young side and I think the Lords debacle has had a very tough effect.

I still think that this pitch has massively helped Crawley being as docile as it has been (or India's bowling not being able to extract near enough lateral movement) but seeing the recent Aussie wickets I'm still not convinced he'll have the chops to survive the first 10 overs.

That being said, it's a moot point. He's going to be playing every game regardless

He's not international standard. Nobody wishes a debutant a bad outing but I'll eat my hat, shoe, and belt if he's a long term selection even under this management.
Yeah I hate to write someone off this early but he looks more pedestrian than Mehkesh. He must have done some things right to get to this level though so I hope we see it today.

I'm really surprised Mukesh didn't get at least a look in Aus tbh given that he really looked well suited to the MCG pitch in the warm up game.

But yes if this guy averages 24 in FC cricket then I have questions about whether Ranji has become greentop city again.

It's wild that a series where India should be 3-0 up is now looking down the barrel of a 4-1 series defeat. The Oval Test could be ugly, as could Day 3 here.

I think we likely should have been 2-1 but for very basic erros like dropped catches and middle order to tail collapses in the first test, all of which were unforced errors. I reckon the one catch that was dropped at Lords could have helped us go 3-0 up, but there were so many aspects to that game.

I honestly think this side has done better than it had any right to do given how inexperienced this side is. This may well unravell the way it unravelled for England in India last year. They won a test from nowhere and then were well in the game and should have almost won the 3rd, I think. But then it went pear shaped. It may well be happening to us now. :(

It sucks though, coz I wanna see this young team do well.
