*Official* South Africa Test Tour of Zimbabwe 2025

From a Zimbabwe perspective. losing opener Curran before the series started was a blow, an opening pair of Bennett and Ben was solid looking,
Ngarava and Evans are probably the 2nd and 3rd best seamers in the country, one injured the other ignored,
Burl deserves another chance, but is also out of favour, and a different wicket keeper is needed,

I worry about their selection process. There has been improvement but what I'm hearing is that there are too many politicians who don't know a thing about cricket involved in the sport in the country.

Proteas update.

Maharaj has suffered a groin injury & is replaced by Muthusamy.

Wiaan Mulder will be captain.

Ngidi won't be playing the 2nd test to give guys opportunity who played the first.
This poster is no.1 updater for SA cricket 🏏

Don't think the result tells the whole story..

At one stage SA was 63/4 in the first innings when Pretorius clearly inside edged to the keeper off Chavanga's bowling but poor umpiring cost them, if it's 63/5 it's a whole different ball game for Zim .

Also Zim misread the conditions which was a bit embarrassing for Captain Ervine , like how do you look at that pitch and determine that 2 seamers is enough on that wicket. Had they gone in with 3 seamers it would have been a tough time for SA.

And then in the match itself losing Bennett was a huge blow , and Muzarabani didn't look 100% fit..The pre match injuries to Ben Curran , Ngarava and the unavailability of Raza also hampered Zim .

Agreed Zim had them on the ropes early doors, but Pretorius took the game away from them, Ngarava or Evans as 3rd seamer on that pitch early doors could have done some damage too, team selection needs looking at, Bennetts concussion was a huge blow.

Agreed. They should have played an extra seamer but they may not have because they don't quite trust what else they had in the squad.

Squad selection needs looking at too, dont like to single any individual out but Tsiga is not good enough, i often look on the Zim cricket forum to get an idea what the supporters think. selectors seem to be a problem too,

For SA

In: Senokwane (debut), Muthusamy, Subrayen (debut)

Out: Breetzke, Maharaj, Maphaka

GRAB

State Regular
By my reckoning, Senokwane is the first Protea from Klerksdorp (but it's also the home of Marnus Labuschagne, although he left very young); on the other hand, Subrayen will be the 6th international in my records from Glenwood HS...

Marco Jansen is born in Klerksdorp. Went to primary School at goudkop in Klerksdorp but potch for high School.

Wihan Lubbe is also Klerksdorp

Friedel de Wet went to Grenswag? Where is that in NW?

EDIT: I see that is Rustenburg.

Dwaine Pretorius went to Rustenburg Hoerskool so also Rustenburg like Friedel.

Now I actually remember one of the coms during the wtc calling marco bowling to marnus the battle of klerksdorp. Needsless to say marco won that one.

I'm working off high-schools, which has its flaws in that regard - Lubbe switched schools to Garsfontein for matric.

The third Rustenburg high-schooled men's player is Chris Jonker (white-ball) (Bergsig). Suenette Viljoen on the women's side

The biggest worry with Senokwane is, he's actually struggling for form. Most of his big runs were the end of last year. The second half of the season was kind of lean, as was the SA-A tour...

I don' think Lubbe went to Garsies. Pure NW-boy.

So

1.Senokwane
2.De Zorzi
3.Mulder
4.Bedingham
5.Pretorius
6.Brevis
7.Verreynne
8.Bosch
9.Muthusamy
10.Subrayen
11.Yusuf

That's one of the strongest lower orders we've had in a long time , 10 of the 11 have FC hundreds.
That's pretty cool.

Mental that Muthusamy debuted in FC as an opener (I know he was 3/4 at school) and will be batting 9 for SA here.

1998 v Australia all 11 had FC 100s. Wonder if we did it any other time.
