Smith will most likely retire after the Ashes so that will be the long term spot for Green

Based on the eye test I don't see Sangha or Davies as having the game to open (especially Davies), could be wrong though. KPat absolutely does, there's a lot of Simon Katich about him

I really think Inglis needs to be given a proper run somewhere but similar to Green I don't see how it can be anything other than in the top 3 with 4 to 7 so locked down

I would ditch Konstas tbh but he never should have been picked in the first place. Give him tha chance to get a Shield season or 2 under his belt
Kp replacing Khawaja would be ideal but I fear they'll go back to M Harris

I would give Konstas a reasonable run but my gut feeling is that he is not up for it technically and he won't figure it out on the job. Starc will call his time aswell

For a Smith-less top 7. Still want to get Inglis in and around somehow though

Marnus is done IMO

we've been done this way too often but you need to pull your head out of your arse if you think it's wise to permanently bin a batsman who averaged over 60 for 3 straight years from 2019 to 2021 and over 50 in 2022 at the age of 31 for this rabble.

But then again this conversation is pointless af.

I wonder how his average fell down to 46. He had a Jimmy Adams start to his career but he's clearly not as good as those initial numbers. He could stake a comeback with a good domestic season but he hasn't been scoring runs at any level.

Relax m8. You're not even actually disagreeing me if you pay attention. I'm not saying that if he goes back to shield and averages 60, regained form and looks like his former self he shouldn't be selected. I'm just saying I don't think it's going to happen, but I'd be happy for him to prove otherwise

Why tho? He is 31 right

I mean he doesn't have to average 60 anymore. Anyone who averages 42 at 3 would fit in perfectly for current Australia

He's averaged below 30 though. Not 42. And it's been 2 years. I've watched a lot of him and it is a very long form slump. Just don't see it happening for him

Australia's batting from 4-7 is ok atm and Green isn't a 1, 2 or 3 so I wouldn't have him in the side. If you want to spell Marnus at 3 then McSweeney should be his replacement. If you're looking for another opener for the frankly irrelevant reason that Konstas is too young, then it's Harris, because that is the consequence you're asking for.
Konstas' age is irrelevant, what matters is his forward defence.

Yeah I’m no technical master but he seems to not fully commit and his front leg looks braced when he plays. I see him having trouble when the ball nips in.
Ironically it's a vast, vast improvement on where it was 18 months ago - at least he isn't getting clean bowled through the gate as much - but yeah it still isn't good.

Looks like Smith will be back for the next game

As much as I hate it, if they are persisting with Green, Smith should move up to 3 as a temporary solution.

I reckon Lyon will retire/told to retire after the Ashes too.

I'm not so sure on this, I wouldn't rule it out but then I could still see him being there for the next BGT in 2027.

Khawaja, Lyon and maybe Starc, could see them maybe moving on from Boland too.

After the Ashes, none of the Australian players will retire (except probably Khawaja).

All this talk of possibly several players going away is wishful thinking. None of them have any plans to hang up so soon. In fact most of them have said to the contrary and that they want to continue for as long as possible. I could see the same bunch play till Ashes 2027 (minus one or two players).
