I seriously hope we don't see any early ODI retirements between now and 2027 because I see SA as a genuine contender to lift the ODI WC at their own home.

Is there any way they can get Klaasen out of retirement?
No. He made his choice. Money over Proteas. Trying to get him back would create disunity. Team more important then individuals. We have guys like brevis who can take that spot.

No one else is likely to retire before 2027. With a home world cup the perfect moment for some guys to go from the ODI scene or cricket in general.

Precisely and arguments can be made for either of the three.

Though it should be noted that only one is baked into team construction and as you noted, even a decent 6th option felt viable at times during the match. But yes, at some points you need all 3.

But marvelous win for SA here, Markham was absolutely brilliant, the pressures of the situation overrides any proposed arguments around the flatness of the pitch.
The MOM really could have been either him or Rabada, who set up the possibility for Markham and of course Buvuma.

Legendary innings, discarding the choker label, Rabada likely passing Pollock and challenging Donald for the 2nd best from SA tag, and Buvuma keeping his streak alive, just unbelievable day for SA and their fans. Well done.
Markram 2 wickets at 5.00 (Smith and Hazelwood)- 136 runs at 68.00

100 % , Klaasen even stated that he got to a stage where he didn't care if the Proteas won or lost when he was playing for us , you don't want that kind of mentality around the team.

Good win, actually made a bit of money here 3.60 on South Africa
@Skyliner
Who are the 6 cricketers in Australia that you’d replace this lot with?

Random thoughts as a non Aussie
Starc - 35
Spencer Johnson

Hazelwood - 34
Lance Morris

Smith - 36
No idea - perhaps Kurtis Patterson/McSweeney
Cooper Connolly as a roughie

Lyon - 38
Todd Murphy / Matthew Khuneman

Khawaja - 38
Marcus Harris again?? Renshaw seemed OK to me

Boland - 36
Xavier Bartlett
Mcsweeney is good but imo not good enough to replace sir steve smith

Totally forgot Brevis. Guy looks like a stud in the making. With Australia most probably entering into a transition phase and England back to being England pre-Morgan era in ODI cricket, I see SA and India as the only contenders. I wouldn't even put India as contenders if fat, washed up Rohit insists on playing until the ODI World cup.

What would be the most likely lineup for SA in 2027?

Breetzke
Rickelton
Markram(C)
Stubbs
Brevis
Miller
Mulder/Bosch
Jansen
Maharaj
Rabada
Ngidi

With all due respect to Bavuma, he should be phased out of the white ball team and continue to cement his legacy in red ball cricket.

Miller and Maharaj will probably play on until 2027 else they would have retired by now.

This looks like a solid team. Many players in their prime. Golden opportunity for SA to win a home world cup.

Wow, i did not know Klassen said that, representing your country in any sport should be the ultimate goal,

NZ has by far its best depth ever and will probably have a stronger team than 2015 & 2019. We could pick 2 competitive ODI teams at the moment.

It probably was although people get burned out, miss their family (I think that was major reason he gave for retiring). It's good he eventually recognised that and stepped away.

Did de Kock retire from ODIs as well?

Speaking of whom, I’m glad that de Kock skipped out on the test side for limited overs, and SA have won WTC and won **** all in limited overs. Suck **** Quinton.
