I'm not sure tbh, I would probably say no, I don't rate Compton as an ATG with his away record, and Chappell is arguably top 15 of all time
Their away record is identical, barring one year when Compton had surgery and was badly injured in Australia, he averaged 46 in Australia and 49 in West Indies, for reference, Chappell averages 40 in England and 48 in West Indies.

Yeah, he is better than his away numbers. But I don't think I completely eliminate the rest where he had bad time for his injury.

You should eliminate between his knee blowing up in May 1950 and him getting better in early 1951, it's a pretty clear outlier from the rest of his career and if you check his biography and newspapers from the time you'd learn it was well known why.

It's not identical, even without the 50/51 season. Chappell was great in Nz too and pretty good in Pak etc. Meanwhile Compton was poor in SA against a not so good attack

I'm not gonna take them at face value, but I'm not gonna completely eliminate them either. And I don't rate Chappell away from home as low as you do. Include WSC, don't think they are very close.

Compton toured South Africa once at his peak and averaged 50+ and then once at the end of his career when he was 40+, and faced Adcock/Tayfield/Heine/Goddard on minefields, not that it excuses it but puts it in context in comparison to Chappell who never went to South Africa. Chappell's Pakistan record is worthless considering he only scored on the flattest wicket ever against a not so competitive team.

Like I said, you should, there's no reason to count it to his legacy/record when it's such an obvious huge outlier, like are we seriously counting runs to downgrade a batsman from a time where he was limping around?

If you're gonna include WSC, I will include Denis's CC career and tour games record, that would not go well.

Johan dreams about Compton and his knee late at night.

If I had ever met him, maybe, he isn't as attractive as I had thought he was but maybe I'm just looking at old images. Miller was more attractive truth be told.

Weekes or Compton?

very close, I have Barrington in the same tier, Compton by a little bit as he managed a much longer career, Weekes retired at 32 as he wasn't able to bounce back from his injuries while Compton was able to
