Just looking at the scores from around the shires - only one game is going into the final day.
Notts won easy, again. Despite plenty of people tipping them to struggle before the season started they’re off to a flyer. Think there’s clearly a lot to be said for them simply having the ‘know-how’ at this level. It’s also worth pointing out that they’ve had a very favourable fixture list so far, think 4 of their first 5 games are all at Trent Bridge
Somerset absolutely capitulated at Surrey and are experiencing almost the exact opposite to Notts as being a team largely fancied to challenge Surrey for the title, to perhaps FINALLY get over the line and win the Championship and yet after four games they’ve lost 2 and drawn 2. It seems like Worcestershire’s defiance on the opening weekend has knocked them right back and they’re still not over it.
On the subject of the Pears, the fight they showed at the back end of last season to secure their safety saw them go on a run of form that a title chasing team would be proud of. With their aforementioned defiance at Taunton in the opener I thought they were due a solid enough season well away from trouble. Unfortunately for them their fixture list is almost the direct reversal of Nottinghamshire’s and it can’t help that after playing their first three games away from home, they had to contest with a pitch as bad as they did against us.
I think now a day later, having reflected, it’s very pleasing to know that we were able to outperform Worcestershire enough, letting our quality shine through, to get the 16 points even though we were missing so many starters. It stops the rot at the very least, but the sooner we can get Gay and Bedders back, the better I’ll feel. The bowling corps is a much smaller concern too, thankfully. Our depth deficiency finally seems to have been solved, even if it took a couple of loans to do it. One thing I will say though, is that I can’t imagine Somerset members are particularly enamoured with Jake Ball contributing to a Durham win, putting clear water between the two clubs in the table, while they continue to struggle.
Anyway, those are the Sunday evening ramblings of an exiled RTG Cricket Forum veteran

. Sort of like an end of week ‘Durham Digest’, with the great Tim Wellock as my inspiration and spiritual leader.
What do you reckon
@CartyDurham? Any word back from The Cricketer magazine on my application?!
I’m off to watch some NBA & NHL playoffs, but it’s not been a bad weekend all told. Durham won and so did GB
