Crawley averages 30 and isn't good at getting starts or capitalising on starts. His defence isn't good enough for a Test opener.

Gooch struggled v only one opponent and exploded once he cracked them.

You rate Gooch higher than Shrewsbury but lower than Cook?

All of Indian hospitals should be turned into Pizza shop.

No I rate Shrewsbury higher than both (lower than Boycott) and heck, Grace higher than everyone. But since those two played so few Tests/didn't did that much in it; I yanked them lower. This is more likely the order I will draft them given occasion.

Oh I see. I though Johan meant current English openers which I thought was a tad harsh (although someone will debate the point I'm sure).

Can I add Frank Hayes?

Interesting...... I really am not Hayes expert, just know he had was a really talented bloke who failed harder than Hick and Ramprakash.

But you rate Macartney over Shrewsbury.

I don't like you.

MaCartney was rated higher than Shrewsbury back in the day. At one time, when talking about players as good as Bradman, he was one of the 5 names regularly brought up (alongside Grace, Ranji, Hobbs and Trumper). After the WWII, he was rated around equal to Hammond and over Headley and Sutcliffe. Shrewsbury was never rated that highly, in any time. And MaCartney was a good bowler to boot, heck he was a bowling all-rounder for most of his pre War career.
