Battle of the Bowling Peaks

If Murali is better in that period, that was pretty much Marshall's whole career, and Murali played for more years before and Same years after that peak and was still among the World's best bowlers; then shouldn't he just be the best bowler ever ahead of Marshall??
I actually rate Murali as the greatest bowler of all time.
Btw, the time when Marshall peaked, Hadlee was in the same level, even being arguably better.

In that time period Murali was arguably better overseas and not close overall in 2000-2006.

But overall Warne might've been a better overseas bowler. So, Shane>murali would be an alright take ig.
I rate McGrath over either personally, even in Murali's peak McGrath is significantly better away

Overall Warne is better way but Murali is the GOAT home bowler Very comfortably. Warne>Murali is a take I move more and more away from as much I think about it.

Don't want to get into a direct comparison, but I can say why I don't think Murali is at highest 4th.

The top pacers were at their best vs their best opponents, and by general rule of thumb, the great pacers impacted the numbers of great batsmen than the other way round.

The exact opposite seems to be true with regards to spinners and great batsmen.

Warne and Murali in particular often came out 2nd best to even really good batsmen.

Spinners are also notoriously conditions dependant and often don't come into their own until later in tests, deteriorating pitch etc.

Murali too famously played vs quite a bit of minnows, and again, he and Warne has glaring holes in their records that are not common among the top 3 / 5 pacers.

I would never say that Murali doesn't have an argument, but for me the highest he grades out is 4th.

McGrath is better for overall career but if just 2000 to 2006, the sheer mountain of wickets gives it to Murali even with his gaps away.

Wasn't it once shown that the really elite Batsmen Marshall faced like Gavaskar, Border, etc. have relatively good output against him?? Same for McGrath vs SRT, Lara, etc.

Warne vs Murali is probably one of the closest comparisions in sporting history, I'll go Warne just, think he was a bit more clutch and got flat wickets more often as countries routinely prepared them (and failed) to neutralize McGrath.

Pretty sure two of the batsmen who Marshall dismissed the most were Border and Gavaskar.

McGrath also for Lara and I believe Sachin quite few times as well and Lara went through a hell stretch vs him.

Murali and Warne were taken on and routinely rocked by Lara, Australia in general and India in general. They weren't good.

Can agree, but it's ridiculously close. Whom ever is in front, I have one literally ahead of the other.

Pretty much my reasons. Warne was a more crafty, aggressive bowler and Murali didn't succeed in Aus.

I edge it to Warne just because of the ability when nothing is happening to go ' **** it, I'm Warne and I'm winning it for my team'.
