*Official* Match#7- England vs Bangladesh

Molehill

Dharamsala had to survive an outfield inspection yesterday for this match to go ahead after complaints from the Bangladesh/Afghan game.

Weather forecast isn't exactly fantastic either, could be a shortened game although ought to be a result.

Must win for England. Shakib/Mehidy took 6-55 between them on Saturday, although there was help for the seamers too. I'd imagine Topley will definitely return for England, not sure for whom though.

outfield was rubbish in last match it was indistinguishable from the local ground nearby when they showed an aerial shot maybe even worse

Dharmasala pitch is like pitches you get in england. I honestly believe we will be blown away in here. The stadium is also short. England could not ask for a better game after their drubbing against NZ.

Some good memories from 2011 and 2015 WC when we beat them. Both very close match and Mahmudullah to the rescue. But we got smashed in 2019. Jason Roy hit 150 odd.

Masrafe choosing to idiotically bowl first on a flat wicket was the main reason for that one.

Wtf was that? Generally you would expect him to take good decisions. Also we won against SA batting first in the first match. So I would not have ruled out 300+ batting first and put the pressure back on with bowling.

2011 match was so gripping. That Mahmudullah and Shafiul partnership at the end...also Mushy running out Trott. Big moment in the match.

That home world cup was going very bad and pulled out the win out of nowhere iirc. Thought were going to lose at the end until Shafiul hit that miracle six.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think it was a mistake to play here. They were desperate for all the tourism revenue as its easily the best venue in India and perhaps the most exotic. Its an absolute experience but the ground was being renovated and is just not fully ready yet in terms of the outfield. I dunno if there were covid related delays in the actual work but yeah, personally, I think they should not have played here. They could have worked on the Dehradun ground which is pretty awesome too, though not as great as this one.

The ground has a great view. You dont get to realize that the outfield is very heavy when viewed from top. But once a fielder dives then you get the real picture plus plenty of dust comes out with each footing when bowler runs in. Its the loose sand inside the grass which didn’t settle fully in.

How were they expecting to get lots of tourism revenue (other than using it to advertise for future tours)? They've made it nigh on impossible for fans to follow their team in the competition. Be amazed if there's more than about 50 England fans there.

This is pi$$ poor for a board that is the richest in the world.

I know that the states are responsible for maintenance of their grounds. But seriously, BCCI should have known about this beforehand

I'm half expecting this game to be postponed due to the pitch condition. England certainly want this to happen.

I am not sure but there are definitely more than enough tourists across India for the WC for it to be a factor.

Anyone else think Bangladesh have a good chance here? They’ve got some pretty good spinners. If their top 3 lay a good platform and get to a competitive total then I can see the upset happening. This is an earlier game think their best option would be to try and bat first post a decent total and have scoreboard pressure.

Yeah I'm pretty worried about tomorrow. Real chance of us losing. I think all other than root and malan will double down on the intent and throw their wickets away

I don’t think they’ll have to double down their batting against Bangladesh. Something around 280-300 should be more than enough agaisnt them

We have to play one extra spinner ie I’d like to see Nasum due to sheer no of right handers in england team. Stokes isnt playing either so its malan and moeen ali. I’d not mind Mahadi the offie as he can get some handy runs in late order too. For this to happen I’m all for dropping Mahmadullah. In last match we have seen him slotted at no8 which is too low a position for him. The best player at no8 would be Mahadi/Nasum. And against England its a must. Bairstow’s numbers drop significantly against finger spinners which is his real weakness so I’d not mind seeing one of our spinners inside powerplay. Then theres harry brook who has weakness against finger spinners too in white ball cricket. If we can block his boundaries then its going to be a challenge for him to rotate the strike. The real threat is going to be Buttler who avg 50 odd against us. Then there is Root who is probably going to score a run a ball century.

From our batting POV, Liton Das is sitting duck against left hand pacers. So Sam Curran or Topley will be getting him early. If Miraz comes in early and England deploys Mark Wood then hes in trouble due to his lack of ability to play genuine pace. I’d rather back Shanto at top order to get runs against England pacers. Shakib should get in early as he enjoys pace and these sort of pitches. Overall I think we are capable of scoring max 275 against England if batting first and chasing 250 if batting second.
