Pollock. Sample size and huge peer rating is sufficient to put him ahead of Kallis. No country deserves someone like the latter as their best bat.

At this point I can't even understand who is sincere and who is a troll
Pollock was rated up there with Sobers in his time. And then in his short career showed that he could deliver the goods. Enough for me to put him ahead of Kallis who isn't an ATG bat as far as I am concerned.

For Batsmen from places like South Africa, New Zealand and England the greatest challenge is to perform well in Asian Conditions. Kallis averages 58 in India and 83 in Pakisthan (in an Era when Akram, Waqar, Saqlain and Akthar collided). This alone suggests how high he stands among the all time great batsmen in Test Cricket, leaving behind his colossal statistics.

Kallis struggled against Murali, you didn't mention that.

The ones putting Kallis above Pollock would likely put Chanderpaul above George Headley.

At some point you have to take peer rating into account.
