SA t20 tournament

Also, reckon sunrisers should rejig the order a bit and move jansen to 5 and cox to 7. Small sample size but jansen hasn't been dismissed by spin in the past 2 years in t20 over an 80 run sample while striking at 170 while he's averaged 13 @130 vs pace and been dismissed 10 times, Jansen's even worse in the death vs pace, averages 10 and strikes at 125 vs it with 9 dismissals. Clearly he's alot better against spin than pace and struggles to hit pace at the death, don't know if that's an ideal number 7, he's gonna see a ton more balls vs spin at 5.

Cox on the other hand averages 26 @140 vs pace overall and 50 @ 130 vs spin. In the last 4 overs he still averages 26 vs pace still but strikes at 190. In the first 16 overs he averages 26 and goes at 125 vs pace. He's made his most runs in t20 in the past 2 years at 6 and 3rd most at 5. Clearly he likes to get his eye in at 125-130 then go berserk vs pace at the back end. This is good, but if he's at 7 then he can maximize the number of balls vs pace he faces, and jansen can maximize the spin he faces and keep the scoring vs spin in the first 16 aswell. Also means that jansen is being better utilized, since he's crap vs pace at the death.
Quick update on this. Just watched the over 16-19 where jansen went berserk vs rashid then rabada and he looked far more comfortable vs pace then the above numbers suggested, nurdled jofra around for 2 well and smashed anything short or full from rabada, didn't seem to struggle with anything. Since the start of 2023 he's made 66 runs with 1 dismissal vs pace and struck at 157 vs pace, in the last 4 that average is 51 and he's striking at 160. Seems like he's massively improved his game vs pace between 2021-2023 and now. Think it'll be interesting to watch his t20 batting over the next year and just see how he develops. Still think he'de be better suited at 5 if the management give him the freedom to smash the spinners given cox's phenomenal stats at the death.

I'd drop Cox 5 0 1 13 0 for JJ Smuts.

It's been a really good tournament so far
Honestly only kept half an eye on the tournament... but one of the things I have appreciated is the speed at which this tournament is being played. I hope that it becomes the norm and they don't extend it (even if we get two more teams). Becomes an interesting endurance test, play an entire T20 tournament within one month, with teams having to play on consecutive days often. Adds an interesting extra element.

Whatever it takes!!!
Kyle Mayers was dismissed on the first ball of the innings and then took a wicket with the first ball of the 2nd innings, wonder if that's ever happened before
Very few guys who have done the face first ball, bowl first ball thing. IIRC Prabhakar did it for a few years for us in the mid 90s, dont think he was good enough to get out first ball or get anyone out first ball though. Struggling to think who else did it with any kind of regularity.

So the Durban Super Giants don't seem to have much of plan when it comes to their selection and tactics imo. Way too many allrounders in the side and a lack of proper batsman. Holder, Hulk, Paul, Mulder and Mayers are all good cricketers in their own way but all of them in one team is over kill imo.

That's the way they picked their squad at the auction. Only breetzke, charles and jonker could be classified as batsmen. Rest are all rounders or wicketkeeper/batsmen with harmer, Maharaj, subrayen, topley, dala, viljoen and madushanka out and out bowlers. The squad is totally unbalanced.

You had harmer play one game and not bowl.

Rassie having a stinker in the field. Dropped Jacks twice. Capitals 84 from the pp and jacks 50 from 19 balls.

Curran, the most expensive buy in the IPL but looking at this competition compare Jacks. Only picked in IPL because RCB got Topley as a bargain.

7 matches batting ave 11.16 s/r 111.66 - 3 wickets at 55.00 Curran
7 matches batting ave 38.57 s/r 201.49 - 3 wickets at 9.00 Jacks

Jacks leading 6 hitter with 19. Curran 4.

Jacks is arguably the most destructive opener in Limited Overs cricket at the mo, he's one of those that can win games single handedly. It's somewhat bizarre that England have chosen both Roy and Salt ahead of him for the ODI Tour, especially when he can offer some handy off spin too. Roy should be nowhere near an England squad ever again.

Curran is not being used properly by Rashid. Quite simply, they have too many seamers and he doesn't know how to rotate them. Do as England did in Australia, bowl him late in the powerplay and then at the death. He's not a top 4 batsman either.
