What are the odds that Babar, Shaheen and Rizwan enter the Pakistan ATG Test XI by the end of their careers?

Yeah Rizwan is making it. I'd be tempted to include him already and I'm the Captain of the Longevity Squad.
I think they're cricketers of similar quality but I think Babar and Shaheen are much less likely to make it than Rizwan, and of the other two Babar is a better chance than Shaheen just because of the competition.

I measure longevity in years rather than Tests which may put me at odds with my loyal subjects sometimes. I have Davo's longevity as about a year less than Marshall's - if the bloke's gonna average 20 doing that and have it standardised to 19 then yeah he can be top 10.

Isn't it the opposite? Assuming there is a spare bowling slot after the big three of Imran, Wasim and Waqar.

I was kind of assuming a specialist spinner and Mushtaq Mohammad but if Rizwan is going to exist then Mushtaq could be let go for another specialist quick I guess. Not sure four genuinely frontline quicks in a subcontinent ATG XI really feels right though, especially if two of them are left armers.

Even overcoming Akhtar requires something special though.
Babar more likely to make it.

Shaheen already has 100 wickets @24 at 22 years old. Even if he gets injured, he has enough years to make it to 250 wickets and be ahead of the opposition.
Babar on current returns doesnt average 50 yet and would need to play another 60 tests to have a comparable record to Younis, Inzi and Miandad.

Easier bowling era, harder batting era. Shoaib was gun.
Shaheen’s wickets also haven’t really come against the best opposition as of yet, but yes he is young and has time. Just saying I think it’s harder for him to do it vs Babar.
Essentially, if Shaheen ends up with 275 at 25-27 or something, you wouldn’t take him over Shoaib.

Depends if you think Rizwan can bat at no.6 and allow for 5 bowlers.

I agree but Shoaib's sample size is only 178 wickets. I have always been hesitant to put him in an ATG XI for that reason.

It's probably this for now IMO. Maybe change the keeper to Moin or something, and if so maybe bat him ahead of Wasim or maybe even also Imran.

Babar's Test career has not been that great as yet. It actually took him a whole to be useful - he was (rightly) continued to be picked on hope for ages - and he's one of the best in the world now but it's been a short period in reality. I think when we go back and look upon it all it'll seem like he should have achieved more.
He's 28 which means his absolute best years could be ahead of him, but unless he plays until his late 30s and does not decline much I reckon Inzi will hold out as having a better career.
I have lots of faith in him to be gun for the next 2-3 years, I just don't think it'll get him over the line if he tanks afterwards.

Yeah same, I just think it didn't work out for Babar enough early on to actually have a better career given he's 28 now.
