The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Thought Donald loved Tendulkar, based on some of his interviews. But left him out of the XI. Strange.
I thought so as well. Interesting to find that neither Tendulkar nor Lara averaged well against Donald. Pretty similar to their record against Mcgrath. Isn't Donald's performance against top batters under rated ?

Who needs opening batsmen. Tbh Waugh probably isn't the one I would be choosing if you had to makeshift an opener.

I could understand it maybe if they are in the subcontinent.

How good is the pool of middle order batsmen for Australia:

Bradman
Smith
Ponting
Border
Waugh
G Chappell
Clarke
Harvey
Miller (ok he wasn't great with the bat but he's an ATG all rounder)

I was going to say Bradman and Smith, but it's a bit of a risk of you get a new ball wicket zipping all over the place. Then again if the 2 best batsmen in history can't handle it, then who can

Australia just has an embarrassment of riches everywhere bar the openers (not that they’re slouches either).

With every passing match it is getting harder to argue with the bolded statement.

You don't think we could benefit from a second specialist spinner? Including Richie as one here

I know Warnes record is crap but could probably try Irongmonger or something

Yeah, two spinners is pretty necessary. Maybe Lyon's offies would compliment Richie's leggies?
I would say Michael Clarke's lefties would do. Most right hand batsmen are notoriously vulnerable to left arm spinners on turners. Just replace one of the batsmen with him.

Yeah for sure.

I thought Katich and Border must have had randomly good SC bowling records to justify them as back up options in his XI. Seemed plausible

But 8 wickets between them total in SL, Pak and India is hardly reassuring

Lyon or Clarke if you want to go the part time option

On the other hand, an Indian team to tour Australia

Sunil Gavaskar
Virender Sehwag
Cheteshwar Pujara
Sachin Tendulkar
Virat Kohli
VVS Laxman
Rishabh Pant
Kapil Dev
Anil Kumble
Mohammed Shami
Jasprit Bumrah

Hazare, Vishwanath and Amarnath unlucky to miss out. Jadeja could replace Kumble if he has a good series next year.

Surely India aren't coming to Australia again already?
