What happened to Vinod Kambli

viktor

State Vice-Captain
About problem with bouncers Sehwag and Ganguly have it equally bad. The rest of the current squad is pretty much suspect too and you may include Tendulkar in that list as well.
And nobody but those three (Sehwag, Ganguly and Kambli) have been sorted out so completely.
I am not saying his attitude was good or that it wasn't responsible for his failure. Its just that he was technically less equipped to cope with different conditions than others.

Kambli had trouble versus the bouncer but the main reaons given for his exclusion was his prolonged poor attitude in the rumour circles. It is said that he used to come to the hotel late, start knocking on some team mate's doors and all. He was very much talented. I watched all of his early international career. I remember how even later in his career, in a comeback, he set the stadium ablaze with 4 four fours in four balls off Simon Doull (not that Doull bowled decent deliveries).

When he did make come backs, it was always in the one day arena. Not saying that he shouldn't have been given chances in one day cricket.. just that I thought a test chance at some point could have been fruitful.

He was struck with tremendous bad luck in his one day come back when in a tri series involving Australia, Zimbabwe and India, he twisted his ankle severely. He was looking as if he would come into his own but sadly, luck didn't want to have any thing to do with him by that point.

Doully was quite a classy performer for NZ actually and bowled a lot of jaffa's....shame about the hair-cuts since but has proven himself to be one of the more eloquent ex-players-turned-commentators around imo

Yeah. But that doesn't mean he was not poor in that over. Or that he was not bald in that tour.

PS: Amazing how you can find stuff on the net. Here's the game.

lol, where did it say he was bald?... or do you just remember that? :p
Was referring to the four fours bit and I can understand how a blind worshipper of Doull's hair (not to mention the voice) can find the bald bit a bit shattering.

haha, like the commentary, not the hair mate... but if it helps perpetuate the image you have of me then fair enough :p

Heard he had an horrfic technique againts really fast bowling, the windies worked that out in 94 & from there just gradually went of the radar.

I immediately think of Kambli's long ass earrings when I hear his name. He was an enigma.

Well... before he had his career wrecked by injury like Allott, O'Connor, Nash, Cairns (to an extent) and one or two others...

What a shame for NZ cricket..All four were more than capable bowlers who could have gone on to have lenghty and far more successful careers. Nash was one who I rated incredibly highly. Travesty that a player of his obvious ability with bat and ball only played 32 tests.

Yeap. And I thought the same about Allott in ODIs. IMO could have been absolutely top-drawer had he not been injured in 1999.

Played for Yorkshire for a while then got released by them at the end of last season. Still to find a county this season and not bowling well for Scotland in the FP trophy.:@
