The N.E. Lincs Road to Glory

Robertinho

Cricketer Of The Year
(Sorry Jamee, this is something of a ripoff! But I like writing stories.. )

Robertinho Dela Cruz took over the managing hot spot of North East Lincolnshire due to the sacking of previous coach Neil Pickup for favouring gingers.

The squad assembled was reasonable - two good batsmen, one outstanding bowler, some decent players here and there. The two premier batsmen, BF Harrison and RB Crane, had a huge amount of responsiblity resting on their shoulders. Each player in the team knew: you must bat well if you want to win - bowling is merely backing up the total that you posted.

The first match, a warmup against the Caistor Town U15 team saw the team appear in this shape:
BF Harrison
RB Crane (c)
CD Sloan
TR Kidd
BN Fegan

NE Lincs batted first

NE Lincs - 2/168
Crane 113 (50)
Harrison 34 (21)
Sloan 21* (9)

defeated
Caistor Town U15 - 0/132
Bramwell 132* (80)
by 36 runs
MoM: Bramwell.

A good victory to kick off the season, though the team knew that this was merely a warmup and the real thing would be much, much harder.

The boys were then pitted up against the Signhills U11 team, a team with some talent but very little. Signhills sent NE Lincs out to field first.

Signhills U11 - 3/117
Darwood 40 (32)
Edmonson 33* (19)
Kidd 2/41 (32)
Crane 1/23 (16)

were defeated by
NE Lincs - 3/119
Crane 66 (33)
Smith 2/60 (32)

by 2 wickets.
MoM: Crane.

The first wickets of the season saw a strong bowling effort substitute for a rather poor batting effort, with Crane the star, snaring 1/23 and making an invaluable 66. Unfortunately Charles Sloan would be out for the next 3 games with a sprained ankle.

Due to this, Lloyd Saunders snuck into the team to play Caistor Town U13:
B Harrison
L Saunders
R Crane (c)
B Fegan
T Kidd

A shocking effort saw NE Lincs bat first and lose dismally:
NE Lincs - 4/100
Harrison 49 (34)
Kidd 29* (24)
Marris 4/36 (32)

were defeated by
Caistor Town U13 - 1/101
Boulton 85* (59)
Fegan 1/41 (31)

by 4 wickets
MoM: Marris.

The batting was truly dismal, Crane dismissed for a golden duck, though Kidd holding the no. 5 spot well with an unbeaten 29. Marris was incredible for Caistor Town with 4/36.

A huge friendly match versus the GGW Select XI saw the same lineup as the previous game fielded. GGW Select XI sent NE Lincs into bat first.

NE Lincs - 2/152
Saunders 132 (70)
Crane 19* (8)

defeated
GGW Select XI - 0/133
Smallwood 133* (80)
by 19 runs.
MoM: Smallwood.

A good showing by Saunders in the previous match saw an unchanged lineup go against the GGW Select XI a second time round.

NE Lincs - 104a.o.
Fegan 41 (28)
Kidd 27 (25)
N Pickup 3/42 (32)

were defeated by
GGW Select XI - 1/106
R'fell-ward 67* (45)
by 4 wickets.
MoM: N Pickup.

A superb bowling effort by the ginger saw him obliterate the NE Lincs batting lineup and finish up with 3/42. A solid batting effort by R'fell-ward led the Gingers home.

A 3rd match against the GGW XI saw Charles Sloan return and take over Lloyd Saunders fill-in role.

GGW Select XI - 0/154
Smallwood 154* (80)
defeated
NE Lincs - 1/110
Harrison 66 (48)
Sloan 44* (32)

by 44 runs.
MoM: Smallwood.

Another match against the GGW Select XI, and the same lineup was used:

GGW Select XI - 2/172
Smallwood 152 (68)
Crane 1/30 (16)

defeated
NE Lincs - 2/139
Crane 135* (75)
N Pickup 2/52 (32)

by 33 runs
MoM: Smallwood.

Smallwood scored his second consecutive 150, to add to a truly crushing defeat. Another friendly against the GGW Select XI, and the NE Lincs boys were really shaking in fear at the Ginger Power that had arisen.

The following team had been selected to take on GGW Select XI:
BF Harrison
BN Fegan
RB Crane (c)
CD Sloan
TR Kidd

NE Lincs - 2/146
Crane 146* (78)
N Pickup 2/58 (32)

defeated
GGW Select XI - 1/119
R'fell-Ward 112* (75)
Kidd 1/39 (32)

by 27 runs.
MoM: Crane.

An excellent win, a vital one at that. The skipper Crane showed his worth with another unbeaten century. Notable was that NE Lincs were 2/0 from 2 balls, the leading Ginger (Neil) removing Fegan and Harrison for golden ducks off the first two balls of the innings.

Another match against the GGW Select XI (when will it stop?), the same lineup was sent out.

NE Lincs - 2/185
Harrison 141 (61)
Crane 28* (10)
N Pickup 0/82 (32)

defeated
GGW Select XI - 1/160
Smallwood 160 (80)
by 25 runs.
MoM: Smallwood.

Another solid display from the NE Lincs side saw them defeat the GGW Select XI for the 3rd time (2nd consecutive). Possibly because they took it to the head ginger, Neil, leaving him with figures of 0/82 off 32 balls. Some big hitting from Crane saw the total fly past 180.

Horrible sunburn on Harrison's part saw him be left out of the side to go up against the GGW Select XI oncemore, Lloyd Saunders taking his place.

NE Lincs - 5/19
Sloan 14 (7)
N Pickup 2/9 (8)
A Pickup 2/10 (6)

were defeated by
GGW Select XI - 1/21
Smallwood 13 (7)
Kidd 1/14 (8)

by 4 wickets
MoM: N Pickup.

An absolutely pathetic display of batting saw the lowest total ever in beach cricket be posted - 19 all out.
