    Abolish the Colts.

With an increasing number of teams having to field depleted sides due to a lack of depth in certain areas, isn't it time to get rid of the colts and divvy up their players to the remaining teams. There's also a growing irritation amongst players at the number of byes.

Won't commit an answer, but I think we jumped too quickly into creating a new side, we're seeing teams being really tested for depth these days.

The byes situation is ridiculous. Colts should have the bye every time, you reap what you sow

Either abolish them or force them to be called CW Canary Yellow.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, the lack of squad depth is pretty poor. I guess divvying up the Colts is one way of solving that problem.

Why not divvy up the least successful team, rather than the newest?

I think it would be exessive to call for a cull of the colts.

Sure the lack of depth at times through the season gets very frustrating, and the byes can grate the nerves ..... but let's not forget the entire system is done by people out of their own spare time etc so we should be thankful it is running at all, ... let alone having a sook about our team not playing for a day.

In regards to lack of depth, though, what about the 'retired' players having a crack, like we did a season or two ago, or maybe even bring in 'randoms' from the grade system. Our dev leaguers play down, why couldn't the graders play up if neccessary?

The loan system has capacity, but there is often far too much debating going on over who gets who.

I wasn't being serious, but the best idea in my opinion is for each club to have 1 (or 2) "feeder" grade clubs. That said, with players scattered all over the place (ie; some Grade teams have players from different Dev League clubs), how would we decide which Dev League team gets which Grade teams?

Grade players is the answer, in any case.

Colts provide 11 extra players the chance to play FC/List A cricket. If you got rid of the Colts then there would be more people who would complain about not getting any game time and them people would call for another new team anyway. We would end up being back to square one again.
