A batsman in any game in the world can request from a captain for permission to deal with the game in a manner differing to the captain's tactics, but once you come down to it it's the captain who lays down the law. They, and/or the selectors, say where you bat, how you should bat, when you bowl, where you field, what field you bowl to, etc.

That's what a captain is all about.

Now that is simulation. ;)

Of course, we could always give people the option to go against captain's orders, but that would likely only end up in a scenario where the player doesn't get a game because the captain wants to use his plan - just like what would happen in the real world (any knowledgeable NZer knows that Cairns, Parore and Adams have missed games purely due to attitude differeces).

Re: Jamee999, while I didn't always agree with Age's tactics, I respected them as we won games using them, and eventually won the season.
So once again we're back to square one ? That players have nothing to do in the league ?

How you should bat?

Afridi might be told to try and nudge singles, but the captain can't stop him slogging while he's out there.

Exactly what I mean when I said that we could give people the option to go against captain's orders when it comse to how they bat/bowl, but they'd only lower their chances of being selected.

I wouldn't be against it, and who knows, sometimes it might actually pay off for some individuals, but you probably get what I mean.

It would definitely be interesting if we were to allow individual players to choose how they bat - although having said that, I can't think of a time that a player has asked his captain if he can bat more/less aggressively and been denied the opportunity in the two years I've been on any selection panel.

As was stated before, if you think it's pointless and uninteresting, you're free to leave. The vast majority doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

Fair enough.

Am I to take that as confirmation of retirement, effective immediately? Please know that by no means am I asking you to leave. It's up to you.

And it's not that easy to be excited when the egotistical captain decides that he'll keep in OD, despite not being a keeper, and he'll just keep instead of a keeper.

from what i remember you started out as a specialist batsman yourself didn't you? which might be why your keeping rating was so low?

i do remember keeping in a couple of games as cover back as early in season 2 or 3 though so it wasn't exactly a new tactic.

In all fairness Jamee, you barely averaged over 20 in OD cricket until you moved to Red. 20.38 average heading into this season.

That kind of production isn't good enough for a part-time wicketkeeper in this day and age of OD cricket.

If you were going to have a Grade comp, then why don't we get guys out of retirement and fill those sides. Im learning a lot from Liam thread about CW History, so it will be mad to play with the guys that made CW, what it is now. Would their be enough players to fill 10/12 teams?
This idea will be implemented - the retired players are around the grade league as amateurs. This also evens up the teams a bit, as a lot of retired players have been hired in by Prime Minister Nixon to play for Nixonstown Foxes.

Someone should notify the likes of Eddie that he'll be participating. He may have some interesting input, should he choose to acknowledge it.
