3rd match, ICC Cricket World Cup at Cardiff

5.4 Boult to Karunaratne, no run, nearly chopped on! Looking to run it down but had no width whatsoever. Guess what? The ball brushed the stumps, the bails shook but didn't come off the groove.

more to come

14.5 Dilshan to Hodge, no run, was that a freakiest thing have you ever seen? Fuller delivery and played back to the bowler. Dilshan collects and hits the bulls eye at his end as Huss had backed away too long. And the bails didn't bother to move. Called not out.

Talking Points - What's up with the zing bails in IPL 2019? | ESPNcricinfo.com

What's up with the zing bails in IPL 2019?

In the fourth over of Knight Riders' chase, Dhawal Kulkarni got one to move into Chris Lynn and clip into his leg stump off the inside edge. The zing bails lit up, and the ball ricocheted to the fine-leg fence. Lynn started his long walk back, and Kulkarni began wheeling away in celebration.

Except, for the third time in a week, the bails didn't come off their groove and Knight Riders got four runs to show for it, after all. Royals have been at the receiving end on two of those occasions now. First, it was MS Dhoni who got away with it, after inside-edging a Jofra Archer shorter one that rolled on to the stumps. Dhoni was on 0 and went on to make a match-winning 75* off 46 balls.

On Saturday, Dhoni was at the receiving end of it, after one of his lightning-quick throws from behind the stumps found KL Rahul short of his ground. The bails again refused to fall off. Rahul made 55, but Super Kings sealed a comfortable 22-run win.

Lynn's non-wicket is now the third time the zing bails have stayed stubbornly rooted to their groove this season, and wasn't the first piece of luck that came the batting side's way: Rahul Tripathi had put down a skier off Sunil Narine just the previous ball.

Ireland’s Ed Joyce survives dismissal after bail fails to dislodge in match against UAE

IN one of the more unusual scenes seen on a cricket field, Ireland’s Ed Joyce has survived dismissal after the ball hit the stumps but the bail was not dislodged.

In the 10th over of Wednesday’s Ireland v UAE match at the Gabba, the UAE’s Amjad Javed sent down a delivery to Joyce.

Joyce missed the ball, the ball grazed the left-hander’s off-stump and the off-stump zing bail lit up and got some air. But then it settled back down on the stump so incredibly Joyce was not out.

The Cricket World Cup is over, it's time to talk about the Zing bails

There were three key incidents in this World Cup where the weight of the bails seemed to come into play. The first involved Ireland’s Ed Joyce from a ball bowled by the UAE’s Amjad Javed.

Javed beat Joyce and the ball clipped the off stump, disturbing both bails from their grooves. But they were not removed, settling back into the stumps and Joyce was not given out.

It seemed an anomaly, that is before the Australia-Pakistan quarter-final where Pakistan captain Misbah Ul-Haq was given a reprieve from a ball bowled by Josh Hazelwood.

Hazelwood’s ball clipped Ul-Haq’s thigh pad and the ball flicked onto the leg stump, disturbing the bail and causing the lights to flash. Again, the bail settled and Ul-Haq was given not out.

The third may be lost in celebration somewhat, but is nontheless another important example.

Steve Smith was at the crease in a small chase during the World Cup final on 16* when he chopped a ball down which deflected off his back foot and gently rolled into the stumps.

On this occasion the bails didn’t light up and barely moved – Smith was again not out.
I suspect the Smith one wouldn't've dislodged normal bails either, but nevertheless

edit found a CA article on it. 08/08/2017

St Lucia's Andre Fletcher has had a remarkable stroke of luck in the Caribbean Premier League, leaving the Trinbago Knight Riders in disbelief

I'm assuming the rules specify some weight for the bails, so just make them the same weight.
