Just the other day I was reflecting on the existential futility of existence, as you do, and it occurred to me that there have been a large number of individual 200+ scores recently. So I did some digging to see if 2014 was special in that regard.

Using a cutoff of 7, here are the best years for test match individual innings of 200 or more...

7:
1930
1997
2008
2011
2013

8:
2009

9:
2001
2006

10:
1999
2005
2012
2014

12:
2002
2010

14:
2003
2004

So 2014 clocks in with a very respectable 10. 1930 makes an appearance thanks mostly to Bradman. But the period that immediately sticks out is 2002 - 2004. 40(!!) scores of 200 or more in a three year period. Amazing.
Here's the list of those innings:

2001 had 9 and 2005 had 10. So were the early 2000s the greatest period in test match history for big innings? There were certainly some amazing batsmen playing in that period.

So every year except 2007 from 2001 until now?

Cbf looking but imagine the breakdown shows lots of doubles from home teams in India, Pak/UAE, SL and Australia, plus doubles from tourists in Bangladesh.
