N.D v Canterbury

Im looking forward to seeing some domestic cricket on tv today, and it looks as though the weather is clearing up so hopefully the ground will be dry enough by 2.30..although i'm guessing there will still be delays.

As for the game, well i think we'll see another ridiculous 90/5 type scenario. Hamilton has been a graveyard for runs this season & with N.D's current form they'll struggle.

The game has lost some of its gloss with none of the Black Caps available yet except for Hamish Marshall and Butler.

Looking forward to see Papps, Fulton and Broom in action as well as Marshalls, Horsley, Robinson and Yovich.

Should be a good game but the weather is not looking good.

The clouds are starting to break over Auckland & that generally means Hamilton is probably the same so if we don't get anymore rain it's a good sign that we might get some play.

I think Papps, Fulton & Bruce Martin will be the players being closely watched today...the selectors have hinted that there are still spots up for grabs in the NZ ODI team with that trial match between Nth & Sth.

Shield Teams Get Black Caps Back
21/01/2004 08:12 AM NewstalkZB

The Black Caps are being drip-fed back into domestic cricket.

Batsmen Hamish Marshall and Craig Cumming have already been back for their provinces.

They played in the last round of the State Shield on Sunday.

Kyle Mills and Andre Adams will play for Auckland in their match against Wellington on Wednesday, with Brendon McCullum and Chris Cairns returning to the Canterbury lineup against Otago on Friday.

Skipper Stephen Fleming, along with Scott Styris, Craig McMillan, Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori have clearances to play in round eight on Sunday.

Daryl Tuffey and Nathan Astle are both on hold as they await a verdict from the medical team on when they are allowed to resume playing at provincial level.

Unless you're a hardcore cricket fanatic, I don't think many people would be too interested in watching State Shield matches without the Black Caps involved.

Now that some of the Black Caps are back in action & mostly all of them will be back by Sunday, the interest will pick up & I'd say the 4-1 result over Pakistan will keep people interested in cricket also.

The North vs South match should be a ripper with plenty of talent in both teams.

Here's my 2 cents worth....

North Island
1 Jesse Ryder
2 James Marshall or Jamie How
3 Hamish Marshall
4 Scott Styris
5 Lou Vincent +
6 Jacob Oram
7 Matthew Walker or James Franklin or Andre Adams or Tama Canning
8 Daniel Vettori
9 Kyle Mills
10 Daryl Tuffey
11 Ian Butler

South Island
1 Michael Papps
2 Craig Cumming
3 Nathan Astle
4 Stephen Fleming
5 Craig McMillan
6 Chris Cairns
7 Brendom McCullum +
8 Jeff Wilson
9 Paul Wiseman
10 Shane Bond or Brad Scott
11 Chris Martin

WIll be a good agme thats for sure!

Chris Martin batting above anybody? Tsk tsk... Oh and who is Bradley Scott?

What an absolute waste of time that match would be if the selectors decided to waste an opening spot on Daniel Vettori, no dis-respect to him because he's a big improver with the bat but we should be looking at specialist options.

I'd pick Jamie How, despite inconsistent form in the State Shield to see what he's like in a higher quality match...actually I think they'll pick James Marshall to open.

Yup, I knew I missed someone....

Brad Scott is a promising left-arm swingbowler from Otago who's had a brilliant season in SC and SS to date.

Yeah I saw his averages the other day & he really has been consistent...even on the flat decks in Alexandra.

The South struggled to field decent bowlers last time so it would be difficult to understand why they would leave out the best bowler in both forms of domestic cricket.

Well i've just found out that Wellington v Auckland has been abandoned...but that's no real surprise considering the amount of rain they got there last night.

According to RadioSport...the ground at Hamilton should be ready in time for 2.30.

The game was off at 8am already.

When will Wilson be ready as a bowler again?

Not sure, but he must be close.

Apparently he was lucky to play in today's game because he twisted his thumb in the last match while sliding his bat.
That kind of poor luck with injuries really does not look good...Chris Cairns, Dion Nash, Shayne O'Connor immediately spring to mind.

Jeff Wilson scored 66 today, he's been very consistent considering he's never really playing back to back games due to injury.

As for Canterbury, well they're doing it easy at the moment against N.D 95/1 after 21.4 overs.

Papps again doing well and is nearing his 50 while Wilson continued his great form in posting yet another half-century.

Canterbury up to 141/1 after 29 overs now...Papps & Fulton have hardly looked like getting out or playing anything risky while keeping the run rate around 5.

yeah, but whenever fulton has really hit it in the air,its gone for 6...2 now for fulton, both off mathew hart.

Fulton is looking good.3 50s in his last 3 innings....dare I say, O.d.I debut?

Tim

Martin Crowe just said he reckons Fulton has another year before he'll make the step up.

And besides we don't really need middle order batsmen at the moment, Papps is the one who's probably got the best chance.

The third aerial shot played by Fulton goes for 4 as well.

But who would go at the expense of Fulton thjough Black Caps Fan?
