That's right. We come hear to socialise as much as anything else. Also, none of us are the Fount of all Knowledge, so someone may pick a player for reasons that we are not aware of. For example, I don't know much about Kohli at all (don't even know whether he is left or right handed) so would have liked a few words without having to go away and research him.

Will pick soon.
I have to say, I find it astounding that your interest in cricket extends to (probably) having a well-defined list of your top five favourite pre-war wicket keepers but not to knowing to which hand Virat Kohli bats with. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it as such, and in a way it just shows how we can each enjoy the game in such different ways, but it just seems so outright strange to me. Do you watch much cricket?

Exactly. I am not sure many people would have known that Graeme Pollock held the record for the highest List A score of 222 from 1974-2002. Hence, I felt that was worth pointing out.

Must say, I agree with Pews here. Perhaps the more pertinent question is: When did you stop watching cricket involving India? :D

Strangely enough, I don't watch much cricket on TV unless I'm home and there's a Test match on, or important limited over game. Given the choice I prefer to read, and because more is written in cricket lore about the likes of Barnes, Hobbs, and Bradman than the current players, I tend to know more about them. Just started 'WGs Birthday Party' btw. I guess it's a time management thing. After working, cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing, smacking the kids into bed, catching up with family and friends etc there's not much time left over. Fortunately I have a job where it's easy to sneak-in CW posts on my PC. But please don't tell my Manager. I would like to go to the SCG/Homebush more, but tickets aren't cheap.

Well, I won't be rushing to pick Babe Ruth any time soon because I think he'd have been pretty good at this cricket lark. Maybe round 12. Definitely not before.

To each his own.
There are 3 formats to win in this Draft, and the number of actual or potential ATGs involved in 20 over cricket is relatively limited. So it may be advisable to select a Gold or Silver Tier player from the history books as long as it's easy to extrapolate their style of game into the ODI/T20 format. The voting thread will determine whether that has been an acceptable strategy or not.

Kyear's turn I believe.

Could have been easier if you had gotten to this beforehand.

And I think it makes the thread better if people post their reasons for picking someone, to ameliorate the 12 hour silences.
Of course it's better for the thread if people post their reasons. It would make for a pretty boring exercise if it was just a series of posts of people picking players and saying nothing else.

It is also a reason why people can comment on their evaluations of the quality and reasoning of the picks made by the participants.

Hence my post.

It's also why the comment was followed by the olive branch rather than the other way round. Doing it the other way round makes no sense as stating the cliché first would invalidate the need for the commentary. Since we agree on the need to embrace commentary in a draft thread, one should really have no problems with the way the post was framed.

To be fair, it also makes the thread better if G.I.Joe calls people out when they post thread-bare justifications for their Round 3 picks.

It's the timing of the selections (round 3) that's the point, not the selections themselves. Given the short history of Limited overs cricket, at some point we're going to run out of multi-faceted players and will definitely have to engage in the sort of reasoning we've seen of late. I just think it's come too soon.

That said, I've probably unwittingly become that guy who spoils the enjoyment of the draft for other people, so I'll speak no more on the subject.

I think it's more the format of this draft. I took Barry Richards as an opener over Jack Hobbs or Len Hutton, which in a standard draft you might not do, but in this one it makes sense to me. I am thinking more in terms of early era guys who would've been great in the shorter forms than guys who actually proved themselves in 3 formats.

I personally don't value 4 test wonder too much in an International cricket draft, so I'm afraid you're already off on the wrong foot in the race for my invaluable vote

That's ok. I don't expect to win. I enjoy the distraction and my own thought processes more than anything!

I've stressed on the all almighty vote as the central focus of the exercise just to ensure PEWS never bothers entering into a draft with me, FTR.

Forget to mention that Greenidge is comfortably the highest ranked ODI opening batsman of the 1970-80s.

Killer bowling attack. All proven for both Tests and ODIs. I highly approve.
