Adam Parore

The best wicketkeeper in the world upon retiring. In his career has changed from a specialist batsman batting every position from 1 to 8 in ODIs and at 3 but more recently at 7 or 8, he was a very technically correct batsman who averaged 26 in both forms of the game. In the 1999 season he achieved the most catches in a calender year, 40. What was people's opinion on him as a keeper/batsman?(foreign views)

What's your reason Shane Warne (amply named don't you think re: NZ in Aus, 3rd Test, Shane Warne 1/135)? Can't take that SOMEONE might be better than Gilchrist (solely a keeper)? Better batsman YES but better keeper NO

whoa mr axe to grind, who said anything about gilchrist? i was thinking more on the lines of mark boucher
and seeing as you like straying off the topic & bringing up random statistics...

"Adam Parore was getting dismissed without scoring for the 16th time in his career. The duck was Parore's 13th as wicketkeeper. He has now equalled Pakistan's Moin Khan's tally of ducks. Now only Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana has aggregated more ducks in a career. The duck was also Parore's second against India. He has now joined five other New Zealanders to aggregate two ducks against India"

As a batsman/keeper Boucher would be better, but not with the gloves.

Parore seldom missed anything.

He is the best NOW boucher... how long did it take you to find that?!? Do you specialise in ducks or something.... in between those random statistics try glancing at his record.. Has he ever batted at 3? 4? 5? NO. Would have been no.2
to Parore in both departments, both being similiar batsmen and have the same skills at keeping. Random statistics...

THANKYOU Neil. He wicketkept while a record 2100-2200 runs (can't remember exact figure) were scored at test level before he conceded a bye! The next best was 1200. Some sense at last.. that guy went on about ducks.. he's a wicketkeeper..

Always had a sneaking suspicion he'd be back...pity it's in the commentary box and not in the whites (deliberatly put because although McCullum is a sh*tehouse keeper Parore never seemed to perform as well in the ODI's as he did in tests [not sure on the stats here])

It would be interesting wouldn't it if he randomly announced "I am making myself available for New Zealand again and come out of retirement".. McCullum does need some time with the gloves, but is developing into a good lower order player. And with the one-dayers and tests thing, i believe that he was used to try and fix the top order problems when things weren't doing well and was mucked around too much in the batting order. In his book he said he prefered test matches, and his game i think suited it.

Wouldn't entirely surprise me I mean he's not that old. Ironic thing was he was hitting good form in his last test, scores of 30 and 40 odd opening in a test we won? It's a crying shame Hart isn't given a bit more credit (although to be honest he does look a trifle odd), he is following in the footsteps of one of our best if not the best keepers we have had.

He is only 32! He retired in his prime! And your right he scored 45 with our backs against the wall and 36 when he opened with Richie. What keeper can say they helped win a test match while opening?

..With Hart... he seems reliable but has struggled and dropped catches.. no more mongrel behind the stumps anymore..

Just headin back up the thread for a second when people were rating Boucher ahead just take a little flash back to World Cup Fleming batting on 40 little snickle on the ball...131* (again stats a little rusty) anyone? But now it seems that McCullum wants to step up and get a bit more vocal behind the stumps so who knows maybe Adam can help him out with his glove work a little?

When a big Kiwi pr*ck gets a 4 from a snick thats, Parore:lol:

Too right mate.. 134* but that's close enough for me.. I wonder if Flem said to Boucher.."you've just dropped the super-six mate" (i.e. refer S. Waugh to H. Gibbs in the 99 WC said similiar except replace "super-six" with "world cup")

Hilariously funny with the 12th man quote!! Can just imagine the slightly over-exaggerated take-off of Richie Benaud saying that now!

I would have saved it and let 'the thief' Murali tell Boucher when they ran out of balls via Messrs Duckworth & Lewis...scares me how a country can be involved in 2 great balls ups in 2 consecutive World Cups! Anybody else wish Michael Bevan would bat like he is now against their country?

Parore was a very fine keeper (I personally modified my style on his - I have a long way to go). He was probably the second best keeper of the 90's behind Ian Healy. His batting potential was far from reached, his innings against Australia on New Zealand's last tour was spectacular. The best part of his game though, was his sledging.

IMO he retired too early, but it probably was a personal decision as he probably lost interest and probably saw more enjoyment in continuing as a lawyer.
