Laxman in one-dayers

A lot of mediamen, ex-players, co-players and fans rate Laxman very highly. With good reason. He is a good timer of the ball, can play a long innings, and has a good average in Tests. One of the better batsmen in international cricket. A true stylist. The batsman's performance in the home series v/s NZ and in the recent series in Australia showed how good a player he is.

However, Laxman in one-dayers seems a different player- in fact, not even close to Test form. As against in Tests, where he averages in the 40's and has a few 100's, with a lot of 50's, his ODI average is just 27.77, with just 2 centuries and 7 50's. Along with a strike rate in the 60's. Whenever he plays one-day cricket, he struggles. Could someone explain why? He is a much better player than some of the so-called one-day specialists like Yuvraj, Kaif and ESPECIALLY Dinesh, who was just not the right person for a World Cup team, ahead of Laxman.

I don't rate Laxman in one dayers. He doesn't have enough shots. He likes sticking to the drives through the off side but he can't score runs everywhere in the way Tendulkar can. Hence he scores to slowly and probably gets out trying to force it.

He's not a good runner between the wickets, is a bit like Nasser was in ODIs, IE he gets tied down and doesn't have the ability to modify shots to pick the gaps in the field.
