Actually there is an article

Opening batsman Tino Mawoyo is in line to take over as the national cricket team’s Test captain from Brendan Taylor, who will remain skipper for the limited overs’ version, if the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board’s proposals are implemented.

Report by Kevin Mapasure

ZC is proposing separating the captaincy of Tests and limited overs’ versions of the game to lessen responsibilities so the respective players can concentrate on their game.

According to impeccable sources, the ZC board is exploring two options which are to either retain Taylor as the limited overs’ captain and give Mawoyo the Test duties, or leave him as Test skipper and hand the limited overs captaincy to Hamilton Masakadza.

Mawoyo is not a regular in the one-day internationals and T20s.
The source said the board wanted to lessen the burden of captaincy on Taylor who has skippered all three formats in the past two years since taking over from Elton Chigumbura.

“There is consensus that captaincy duties should be separated as is the case with other top cricket playing nations,” said the source. “Taylor is likely to lose the Test captaincy to Mawoyo but there is a possibility he could lose the ODI captaincy and retain the Test. What is certain to happen is he is going to lose one or two of his three roles.”

It is likely, however, that Taylor would prefer to retain captaincy in the premier format of the game in the Tests, but it is unlikely he would be consulted.

Among other proposals the board is seriously deliberating on is the possible inclusion of the national team coach in the selection panel.

After the death of former national team coach Kevin Curran, who was one of three selectors, the board is likely to retain Givemore Makoni as convenor, with Wayne James and the new national coach completing the panel.

Current coach, Alan Butcher’s contract with the team runs out in April next year meaning Zimbabwe’s tour of the West Indies would be his last in that role.

His assistants Heath Streak, Grant Flower and Steve Mangongo are expected to apply for the job; foreign coaches are also expected to gun for the post. The deadline is today.

Butcher clashed with the national selectors last year over selection decisions, and to curb such friction the national coach will have a say on the composition of the team.

Meanwhile, the tour itinerary for Zimbabwe’s visit to the West Indies has been released confirming that the two nations would engage in a two-Test series preceded by three ODIs and two T2Os, starting on February 22 and spanning a month.

The final of the Pro50 is currently underway with the Tuskers winning the toss and putting the Eagles into bat. Zhuwao got off to a quick start hitting 33 off 28 balls before Querl picked him up while Meth picked up Chibhabha for a duck. Currently 2/54 off 11 overs with Matsikenyeri and Raza currently at the crease. Looking like it should be a good match

Incidently the national Zimbabwean training squad has been named for the upcoming tour of the West Indies.

Brendan Taylor (Captain), Regis Chakabva, Tendai Chatara, Mike Chinouya, Graeme Cremer, Craig Ervine, Kyle Jarvis, Timycen Maruma, Hamilton Masakadza, Tinotenda Mawoyo, Keegan Meth, Christopher Mpofu, Natsai M’shangwe, Cuthbert Musoko, Tinotenda Mutombodzi, Tinashe Panyangara, Raymond Price, Edward Rainsford, Vusimuzi Sibanda, Prosper Utseya, Brian Vitori, Malcolm Waller, Nathan Waller and Sean Williams

4/108 off 31 overs

Mpofu and and Dabengwa have really put the brakes on the Eagles promising start with Mpofu picking up Raza for 14 and Dabengwa picking up Matsikenyeri for 35. The Eagles have a long tail so the Tuskers are in the driving seat now

The Eagles made a good comeback to be all out for 222 after 49 overs. Utseya top scored with 53 off 44 balls. Meth and Mpofu were probably the pick of the Tuskers bowlers with figures of 3/56 and 2/31 respectively. Should make for a competitive chase for the Tuskers who are missing Sean Ervine from their batting line up but the Eagles are also missing Price and Chigumbura from their bowling attack.

Same issues as previous with Querl. There was an article in which Heath Streak spoke about him. Said he appeared to be interested in playing for Zimbabwe then trailed off with his suspect action and issues with "getting his papers sorted." No direct quotes from Querl so the whole situation is still very strange. No one seems to know the real reason for his continued exclusion.

Rain has stopped play with the Tuskers 0/67 off 19 overs. Will be a disappointing end to the game if there is no further play. Ewing has been solid with 41 off 64 balls and being supported by Chari who is 23 off 51

Awesome to see Williams's return extend all the way to this. Surprised that Shingi isn't a part of that though.

Best news of course is that Taylor is in fact captain, though.

Yeah Shingi is unfortunate to miss out. Has been playing better than a number of the bowlers named in that squad. I thought Coventry was unlucky too. Would have been useful in the shorter formats of the game and now that he's taken up the gloves, would have allowed Taylor to concentrate on his batting and captaining. Chigumbura is one notable omission which was long overdue.

Yeah the writing was on the wall for Elton; I'm mildly surprised he's not in such a big squad but he was never going to tour.
