What did the SA people think of de Kock's entry onto the international stage? He seems to have a lot of talent, was rarely troubled by the bowlers but seems to get himself out after a decent start. Has a lot of shots and his keeping improved as they games went on.

I would say quite excited but know he has to work on a few things in his game.

We can see he can play all around the dial but getting out after a start was the story of his One-day campaign for the Lions besides a good hundred v the Titans and the same happened here. But that back-foot punch on about off stump that was all wrist was great to watch. Turning a good ball into a bounday. Probably needs to realise when 1's are on offer instead of saying before the ball is bowled he must go attitude. Probably the talented kid on the block attitude.

More excited about his keeping as we all knew he had the batting talent. Though he was superb in the U19 WC behind the stumps to Prenelan Subrayen and has looked really good so far vs the Kiwis as well.

If he understood that he didn't have to score off every ball he probably would make big scores most innings. With him as keeper, there would be no need to play someone like Elgar, there could be six specialists plus the bowler and he would be good enough to be an extra specialist batsman who is an all-rounder of sorts.

Honestly don't think de Kock should be promoted yet. Needs a few more big innings under his belt or else he may become an ashraful-like chap.

Also thanks Seam-Up, I'm probably around 120 but get swing both ways so we'll see how it goes.

Think that may happen down the line. Will get extra difficult when Duminy is fit again though. But I reckon the selectors want more runs from with the red ball so they are happy building his experience in 1-day cricket for now.

Dean is getting a bit of exposure so he doesn't come into the openers spot with no prior test experience so can see him staying in the team for the next 3 tests.

Without a doubt yes, Prez.

2 hundreds and 2 fifties in the Coke Week and subsequent selection in SA Schools team.

and about 4 ODI hundreds for the SA u19 team. (Most ever) He did open which helped that record.


I'm currently monitoring Pillay, Rosier and Bedingham with their development. Not stand outs though. We know the bowling talent of the last two groups but just trying to see the batting talent around that is 17. 18 now.

To me the next possible standout star is Oldfield. Scores hundreds regularly in big competitions and SA Schools at 17 is something to keep an eye out for. Worried that he might miss the ODI series though vs England with torn muscles around the rotator cuff. Interestingly he was the first Michaelhose boy to make SA Schools since Dale Benkenstein in the early 90's.

Final round of Sunfoil Series and like the Momentum One-day Cup its between the Cobras and the Lions.

After todays play you can't bet past the Cobras winning the title. Lions missed out on some batting points as well.

The Domestic T20 Challenge first overseas 'signing' is Bopara. Interesting to see if there are any others.

Also good fight back by the SA u19s. There was no doubting David Bedingham's natural talent, it is more a question of how much he wants it and it was good to see him grind out his first 80 balls and then turning the 50 into a big hundred. Probably a match winning performance.

Quite happy with the pitches in the FC season. They had life and sideways movement and there were loads of results. May have been as a result of the rain this summer. As a batsman you had to work hard for your runs and the FC pitches didn't seem as tired as the season before. The only negative is maybe spinners weren't allowed to come into games as not that many games got to day 4.

When CSA congratulated the SA u19 team on their impressive victory in the 2nd test from a tough position,Jacques Faul highlighted the success of the 3 spinners of which two were leg-break bowlers. Faul went on to say that was the first time in 100 years 2 leg-break bowlers have won a game for South African team. Quite exciting for the Knights is that both Rosier and Orros are all-rounders.

The day after the last u19 test he flew from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg to get his FC debut for Free State and got 81 and a 5-for.

AN ex-pupil and cricket star of the Goldfields, Vassili Orros, has achieved his life-long dream of wearing the Green and Gold, playing both in the South African schools team and the u.19 Protea team.

While still in the Goldfields Orros attended Koppie Alleen Primary, then St Dominic’s, St Andrew’s and Grey College in Bloemfontein. He matriculated in 2012.

He has been competing in the Free State team since age 11.

He capped the team’s u.13, u.15 and u.17 teams and from the age of 16 he has been attending the Cub’s Week in Stellenbosch. He is a leg spinner just like Shane Warne.

In South Africa leg spinners are sought-after players. What makes Orros a winner is that he is an all-rounder. He lives and dreams cricket.

Orros has been practising for over a year with the Knights, under the guidance of Nicky Bojé.

He also plays for Kovsies and has a keen interest in hockey, having obtained Free State colours.

He was the only learner from the Free State to be included in the national schools team.

Loads of articles around at the moment and before on the current players like the Orros one above and this one in the Argus for Clyde Fortuin the keeper.

Read some interesting articles lately about the current SA u19 keeper, Clyde Fortuin. Was the youngster to watch in the SA cricket magazine and was in the Argus as well.

If Cricket Followers local and countrywide have not heard the name Clyde Fortuin, they soon will. The St Joseph's College Grade 12 pupil made his debut for the National under 19 team against ...England in two Test matches this past weekend at Newlands Cricket Ground.

Fortuin comes from humble beginnings and flying below the radar at present is where he prefers to be. His however had to read about himself in most cricket magazines and newspapers nationwide and has been tagged as one of the brightest young talents since the days of Herschelle Gibbs. This is not just media hype as his records with bat and gloves behind the stumps puts him above most under 19 cricketers in the country.

In a Newspaper article Head of WP amateur cricket Nabiel Dien quoted, " He'll play for SA one day, of that I have no doubt" Dien also added "I'll put money on it. Here we have a youngster who is a serious batsman and competent wicket keeper. "Who do I rate more Clyde or De Kock? "Clyde by a mile. Remember he's a couple of years younger than Quinton, so when he gets a couple of years more experience, we're going to see a special talent emerge"
