I disagree. 90 overs in a day of test cricket. If the team batting first bats really well, and through the first two days, that gives them roughly 180 overs of batting.Never, literally if any batsman even gets to 400, then they want shooting for not playing for their team because in all likelihood they won't be scoring fast enough to define the match or will take too much time out of the game doing so.
Ponting was quite right when he referred to Lara's 400 as selfish.
That's approx 1080 balls. A player going in early on the first day and batting through the two days could reasonably expect to face 540 balls.
If my maths is correct, to score 400 in that time, you'd need a strike rate of about 75. Very do-able.
No reason why anyone like Gayle, Warner, Sehwag (or anyone really) couldn't do that, and still leave their team three days to bowl out the opposition twice.
Being fit enough, having the concentration, and the luck, are other things altogether.
My money would be on Warner to put together a massive score at some point. Young, fit, and once he gets going could do it very very quickly .
