Are you sure its not WG taking a stumping off the very first ball bowled in test matches by the regular keeper Lyttleton. This was also WG's first ball as keeper !!

That looks very much like it (it was catch down the leg side) It made him the only WK to take a c/st off the first ball. However, it was not Lyttelton's first ball. He had bowled an unsuccessful spell earlier with Walter Read as the 'keeper. The record could be that it is the best bowling by a player who started off as a WK.

BUT this can be correct only if Jason mixed the two players up.

Clarification- As stated previously it is a record that involves 2 people. For one it is a bowling record !! But not for the indivdual who is the the focus of this question - and who is the other half of the duo.

Q6 Is the player in question a wicket keeper ? No

But I suspected it from the beginning and asked him if it involves keeping and he said NO

Four catches in a single test innings by one fielder of the same bowler ??

Goonasekhara off the bowling of VB John . SRL vs NZL 1983 ??

Question
A cricketer (least expected to hold such a record :D ) holds this unique record !!
Let the questions begin !!

Q1 Is it Test record ? Yes.
Helpful Hint 1 - It is a record that involves 2 people!!
Q2 Is the record for performanmce on field of play (batting nowling fielding etc) ? Yes
Q3 Is it a record to be proud of ? Yes
Q4 A bowling record ? Yes
Q5 A wicket keeper heading the teams bowling performance for an innings in a test match ? No.

Clarification( Hint 2)- As stated previously it is a record that involves 2 people. For one it is a bowling record !! But not for the indivdual who is the the focus of this question - and who is the other half of the duo.
Q6 Does the player concerned a wicket keeper ?
Q7 Does the feat involve wicket keeping ? No

Helpful Hint 3 - The bowler's exemplary bowling is contributory towards this record more than anything !! And what's more - the fact this person holds this record only exemplifies the poor bowler's bad fate !! :D :D

Q8 Is it 2 bowlers picking up all 20 wickets between them ? No
Q9 Picking up the first wicket and then , inspite of bowling more overs than his partner watching the latter pick up the other nineteen ? ie Laker and Lock ? No

Helpful Hint number 4 - It is a bowler and someone who is not a bowler !! (and by his reputation does not deserve this record in many people's opinion !!) :D

Q10 Is it held by someone from the Southern hemisphere ? No(not from SA, Australia,NZ)

Clue (after 4 hints) :) - It is a combination record !!(this person and bowler) -Little lateral thinking required !! :)
Q11 Are you sure its not WG taking a stumping off the very first ball bowled in test matches by the regular keeper Lyttleton ? No
I get the impression it is the highest wicket tally for a fielder/bowler combination?
Q16 Is it the record for the highest wicket tally for a fielder/bowler combination ? Yes

So who are the holders ? And why is this person( fielder ) considered the most unworthiest of people to hold this record ? :D

I've searched but haven't found anything.

Edit: The answer was actually the first one asked...I must be blind.

It cant be the highest number of "career" catches of one bowler record. I doscarded that long ago since Mark Taylor cant be considered unworthy.

So if it is still to be a career record, AND a bowler fielder record, I presume it means ALL the catches a fielder took in his career (short one I guess) were off just one bowler OR vice versa. ?

Is it such a record ?

Well considering the record is not one achieved during a single match and is over a career but is not Taylor as you say must leave another possibility such as that...should be interesting to see what Jason comes back with over that question.

Whatever it takes!!!
Is it a number of catches a fielder took off a particular bowler and the fielder concerned has not taken any other catches off anyone else's bowling?
