I have to agree with Fuller and SL in that I'm alot more excited than depressed or worried. I'm glad it happened sooner, rather than later, as it means we avoid having 4-5 players retiring at the same time and leaving a huge void in the team. I'm looking forward to seeing how our new players perform, as well as there being more focus on the new talent coming up through the state competition.

I didn't say all his wickets were from full tosses and long hops. I didn't even say most.

How do you replace a warne and mcgrath...you dont.
There is only one warne and one mcgrath.
Same goes for when Ponting eventually calls it a day.
this aussie team is full of guys who would make the short list for the aussie team of the century and its just freakish that they were all born around the same time to form this champion team.

Personally i think Darren Lehman has been bowling quite well of late

Who knows, i would suggest that Casson might get a run, Cullen would probably be up there at the moment too, Cullen Bailey maybe behind them.

White has them all covered if you look at Statistics plus the added bonus he can bat. Cullen needs to get his average under 40 before anyone even suggests he plays for Australia, its currently 42 atm.

I think there's little doubt over the next four years (I always work in four year cycles) that Australia will still be highly competitive and a very good side with Warne and McGrath gone. However, I think a window into the future was the summer of 2003-04. Australia confronted India (one of the best teams in the world at that particular time) sans McGrath and Warne. That summer, and I think for the forseeable future, the following points emerged:

- We will draw quite a few more games;
- We won't be as able to take wickets through drying up the scoring;
- We will still be very able to compile big scores; and
- Most significantly, we will lose our aura, and other sides won't be intimidated by us.

As a result, while we may retain our number one ranking in Test cricket, there certainly will not be anything like a big gap back to the rest of the field. I predict we'll probably be, in terms of world ratings, how we were in 1994-1996. Arguably - but not clearly - the best team.
