Strauss given the all-clear

Andrew Strauss has been cleared of all but a broken heart as his team lost the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney.

Strauss, who was hit in the head by a ferocious Brett Lee bouncer, was taken to hospital for scans as a precautionary measure. The scans showed no damage had taken place.

Matthew Hoggard’s replacement for the final Test, James Anderson later told the media that Strauss was going fine.

“He’s all right. He’s wandering around the dressing room with a bit of a lump on his head but apart from that he’s okay,” he said.

The England vice-captain had a mixed summer with the bat in Australia, getting starts but never able to go on to make a big score, falling victim to poor shot selections and bad umpiring decisions.
