Hoggard due to miss 3rd Test

Against recent positive reports, Matthew Hoggard is now expected to miss the third Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford. Bowling in the nets ahead of a one-day fixture for Yorkshire, the fast bowler aggravated his groin injury.

Hoggard bowled only 10.1 overs in the first Test when he pulled up injured. He took no further part in the match or England’s crushing win in the second Test. Hoggard was optimistic to return at Old Trafford, but the selectors are unlikely to risk any long-term damage, particularly given the busy summer ahead.

Ryan Sidebottom replaced Hoggard in the Test side for the second match against the West Indies, and took 8 wickets in a welcome return to international cricket.
