Would a successful 2027 make Cummins a great captain?

In all seriousness it is hard to say. He may also be remembered for losing tests at home to the Windies and Bangladesh, but overall has done a good job even if Smith is probably a better strategist.

by the time aus tour india next year it will be more than 22 years since aus won a test series in india. bgt 2027 will be australia's 6th test tour to india after 2004. and by ashes next year it will be 26 years since aus won an ashes series in england ashes 2027 and it will be australia's 7th test tour to england after 2001

India makes sense but the fact that England have been able to hang on for so long is crazy. They were definitely the superior side in 2005, 2009 and 2019 but still couldn’t win.

the only australian captain to win bgt in india is ricky ponting but he never won ashes in england. gilchrist did captain australia in one match of 2001 ashes and 3 matches in bgt 2004. But he was not the full time captain

Yep, england might not be the best test side for now but they are dominating at home. They never lost their last six home test series against australia

australia has 13 more tests to play before they tour england next year. just because they lead the wtc cycle now doesn’t mean they can win ashes.
In 2023 wtc final australia beat india and the ashes series that year, hosted by england, started within a week. wtc champions still couldn't win the ashes with that form

yes. he captained his team in 3 out of 4 tests in 2004 bgt and australia won 2 tests. ponting only captained in the last test. But gilchrist never won a away ashes as a captain
