Which batsmen were most successful against Marshall, Hadlee and McGrath?

The three greatest pacers generally agreed upon.

Who were the batsmen who through their technique and batting style you felt were able to successfully neutralise or dominate these bowlers in their careers? Not necessarily the most runs but those who demonstrated the most effective way to counter these bowlers.

For example, Martin Crowe in 1990 has often been pointed out at combatting Wasim‘s reverse very well based on remaining on the front foot with a straight bat and great judgment in leaving the ball.

Gavaskar has 6 hundreds while playing against Marshall / Hadlee. That is pretty fantastic for an opening batsman.

Ijaz Ahmed has 4 hundreds against Australia when Mcgrath played and 6 overall.

Not saying these are defnitely the best though.

Miandad and Hadlee is weirdly one sided, so was Crowe vs Hadlee in FC i think, to the point Hadlee never dismissed Crowe once. Gower was also quite successful.

Don’t think either Gooch or Sunny really effectively neutralized Marshall

Lara didn’t either with McGrath except for that ATG 99 series. He always seemed to be taking chances against him.

Ijaz has some success against McGrath because he was terrific against bounce outside off, though I think he was still taking a fair amount of chances.

Ponting thrashed McGrath like Crowe against Hadlee. Viv had few moments vs Marshall but still fairly even. Marshall had too many tricks for any batter to really dominate him, a cut above the rest.

KP I think was the one who really seemed comfy against McGrath for the most part

Unlike against Marshall and Hadlee, doing well against McGrath was difficult. Marshall and Hadlee were part of a monotonous attack. Whomever dominated pace had a chance to dominate the. With McGrath the problem was Warne tended to get them before McGrath's second spell. Otherwise most of SAF players who were in god mode against pace wpould have averaged way more than now.

Aravinda was excellent against McGrath. But then sucked against Warne from the other end.

I think Lara was more likely to have a bad series because of McGrath than vice versa, if he's the best against McGrath then that is a great feat for McGrath.

KP seemed more comfy against McGrath. He was taller, less bothered by his bounce and really seemed to rattle him with shots outside off. I rarely felt KP was going to Nick off him.

Umm no. Marshall was part of an all pace attack but nothing about facing that attack was monotonous or less difficult than facing Warne. Garner and Holding bowled at generally different lengths and pace than Marshall. And never ever under estimate the intimidation factor. That's something McWarne don't come close to.
