Those two used to bowl at school on coir matting, believe it or not. I am old enough to have played on those things, and they were dangeous at the best of times. They used to roll out two of them, each as long as half a pitch. When the ball hit the leather strip at the end of each mat, it would skip off like a rock being skimmed across a pond, giving the impression it was almost gaining speed. It was terrifying.
The matting was also pretty textured, so not only would the ball hold up well on it, it would jag everywhere. Even bog average medium pacers were a handful on it, let alone two blokes fast enough to ultimately play international cricket.
