The South Africa Under-19 (SA U19) Men’s selection panel has named a 15-player squad for the upcoming tour against England later this month.
The junior Proteas will compete in three Youth One-Day Internationals (YODIs) from 30 June – 06 July, followed by two unofficial Test matches from 10 – 20 July across England.
Lions all-rounder Jason Rowles will captain the side that welcomes five uncapped players, including batting trio Riley Miller (Eastern Cape Iinyathi), Nkosana Sibiya (Lions), and Joshua van Biljon (Dolphins). Easterns seam bowler Kamogelo Matlala, along with Lions all-rounder Tahseen Hanslo, have also been named in the squad for the first time.
SA U19 Men’s head coach Imraan Khan said: “There are five new faces in this squad, which brings a nice injection of freshness and energy to the group.
“At the same time, we’ve retained a strong core group of experienced players. That balance is deliberate; we want the new guys to be exposed to tough conditions, while also benefiting from the leadership and guidance of those who have already played at this level.
“This tour will give our players a great opportunity to test themselves in foreign conditions. The combination of red and white-ball cricket will challenge the players in different ways.
“The four-day matches will give batters time to adapt to swing and seam movement, while bowlers will have the chance to build pressure over longer spells. Since our younger players don’t often get to play first-class cricket, this will be invaluable exposure.”
The squad will convene for a camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria ahead of their departure to England on 22 June.
