South Africa team selection

Hamza has issues with the short ball. Was the case in his short test stint and was dismissed Vs India A a couple times with it as well. It's tough to improve when you not regularly facing quality to work on it. So you either have the talent to find a solution or not these days.

Other players on the fringes...

Van Dyk - played one A game, and bossed it in the few div 1 games he played, but he signed to a div 2 franchise again, and time isn't on his side.
MPretorius - Looking like without a contract?
Peters - Quick, but even more fragile than Nortje?
Cele - still only 28, and performed well at A level, that skiddiness may provide something different?
Plaatjie - also quick, but a bit all over the place?\
Coetzee - hasn't really done much wrong, other than been injured at the wrong times
Seamers will never be an issue for us.

Feel like there is a real strong batch of young talent around. Bold all U23 plus we already have M Jansen/Coetzee who not many countries have that quality in mid 20s age.

WP: Burger, Paterson, Moreki, Daniels, Dube, Kruiskamp, Bassick

Warriors: Boast, B Hendricks, Olivier, Peters, Mungroo, Bedja, CJ King

Dolphins: Baartman, Cele, Dudgeon, Mokoena, Luus, Majola

Lions: Rabada, Maphaka, Coetzee, Sipamla, Yusuf, Plaatjie, Aihevba, Basson

Titans: M Jansen, Ngidi, C Bosch, Dala, E Bosch, Swanepoel, D Jansen, Smit, Mnyanda

NW Dragons: Dupavillon, Fryer

Boland: Stuurman, Williams, Mnyaka

Knights: van Vuuren, van Zyl, Soni

Who is producing our cricketers?

Three dominant producers (WP, Lions, Titans), Dolphins dropped off in batting big time but are picking up there by the U24 team. Eastern Province don't produce a lot but do produce good ones which is the category Free State used to be.

Batsmen wk/ seamer all-rounders/ spinners & all-rounders / seamers / U24 players

The South Africa Under-19 (SA U19) Men’s selection panel has named a 15-player squad for the upcoming tour against England later this month.

The junior Proteas will compete in three Youth One-Day Internationals (YODIs) from 30 June – 06 July, followed by two unofficial Test matches from 10 – 20 July across England.

Lions all-rounder Jason Rowles will captain the side that welcomes five uncapped players, including batting trio Riley Miller (Eastern Cape Iinyathi), Nkosana Sibiya (Lions), and Joshua van Biljon (Dolphins). Easterns seam bowler Kamogelo Matlala, along with Lions all-rounder Tahseen Hanslo, have also been named in the squad for the first time.

SA U19 Men’s head coach Imraan Khan said: “There are five new faces in this squad, which brings a nice injection of freshness and energy to the group.

“At the same time, we’ve retained a strong core group of experienced players. That balance is deliberate; we want the new guys to be exposed to tough conditions, while also benefiting from the leadership and guidance of those who have already played at this level.

“This tour will give our players a great opportunity to test themselves in foreign conditions. The combination of red and white-ball cricket will challenge the players in different ways.

“The four-day matches will give batters time to adapt to swing and seam movement, while bowlers will have the chance to build pressure over longer spells. Since our younger players don’t often get to play first-class cricket, this will be invaluable exposure.”

The squad will convene for a camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria ahead of their departure to England on 22 June.

I do not think Supersport is showing this - could be wrong though. But anyway, if remotely interested can watch here:

A legitimate source where I watched/followed the Pakistan vs England test series.

Strong side, but a batter light. Guess they want to try out both spinners and still have 4 (plus smith) bowling options, but fortuin isn't a white ball 7 and coetzee is a questionable 8...

74/7 now

This white-ball squad was always closer to our actual A side.

Feels like there is a real gap in England in that 25-30 age group. Still lots of youngsters in this England Lions squad.

You might be able to get away with Coetzee at 8 if there's not much of a drop-off with the remaining batsmen. There is in this team though, as Peter's questionable at 9, not that it should matter in this match.
