Quarter Finals

We now know half of these.

France v Morocco
Portugal/Spain v USA/Belgium
Norway v England
Argentina/Egypt v Switzerland/Colombia

England will play at 10pm on Saturday UK Time, which as I know some of you love to know, now clashes with 6 people going out to a restaurant of which only 2 of us like football!! Can see us heading off to a pub.

What's the possibility of a Morocco vs Colombia/Egypt final?
Morocco are a decent team, but are probably drawn on the wrong side of the draw for making the final.

I can't see Egypt or Colombia being good enough to get past Argentina or the two European teams in their half.

Meanwhile, Mrs M (who is Welsh anyway) has announced she'll be supporting Norway as she loves their celebration (I mean who doesn't, but I don't want to see it again).

Jude's quest for a knighthood to carry on.

England to beat Norway and another motm performance from the English #10.

They'll build Norway v England as the battle between Haaland v Kane, even though they'll probably only come into contact at the handshakes before and after the game.

Less romantically, it could be framed as the battle of no functioning right backs as Norway in as much of mess in that position as England.

At this point it feels like someone is deliberately scheduling social events to clash with the football.

More that social events are being organised by someone completely oblivious to the football.

There's a further story to last night. I ended up watching the football on an ipad. Our two nephews were sleeping in the lounge, and in a bid to turn off one lamp, one of them turned off the main sky box so that none of the minis would work off it!! And yes, Mrs M thinks this is hilarious!!

2022 - 5 European, 2 S American, 1 African
2018 - 6 European, 2 S American
2014 - 4 European, 3 S American, 1 CONCACAF

In 2010 there were only 3 European teams in the QF's, but they did end up filling the top 3 spots.

Wins for Argentina and Colombia tonight would repeat the 2022 QF combination.

So what you're saying is the solution is to expand the tournament to include more cannon fodder from Asia and North America?

Football as a sport has become less and less about individuals over the past 15 years, but Western culture has become more and more individualist. The more people try to make the story be about This One Guy, the less it fits what actually happened.

I think the cannon fodder has actually made it more predictable. It's not impossible that we will have ****ed around for a month and we'll end up with the top 4 seeds in the semis. The dilution of the groups made it easier for the top seeds to win them and go into their expected pathway. Basically, only Portugal ****ed up.

Portugal or Colombia was always a toss-up and you would still have a minimum of 4 group winners eliminated by this stage.
